I walk up the Lahey's house and i'm so nervous. The closer I get to the door the more I want to run away. But I needed to see Isaac. I needed to know he was okay.

I knock twice on the door as loud as I can manage. I stand back to wait and there's some yelling before someone comes to the door, I watch them through the glass and realize quickly it's not Isaac.

"Hello. How can I help you?" The man asks, a fake smile plastered on his face, I study him and realize this must be Isaac's father.

"Hello, Sir. I'm here to see Isaac. He was absent today and I have our homework from biology." I say, trying to keep my voice from trembling.

The man studies me and scowls. "Fine. Wait here." He slams the door in my face and I hear more yelling before the face I recognise opens the door.

"Hi." He says quietly, I gasp when I see his face. I feel sick.

"Isaac..." I mummer and he forced a small smile. His lip is swollen and red. There is a cut on his right eyebrow and his right eye is so black and blue I can barely make out his eyes.

"Thanks for bringing the homework, I probably won't be at school for a while." He turns to look over his shoulder to his father who must just be out of my line of sight. As he does so I see the hand prints that look like strangle marks on his neck.

I'm horrified for him. "Isaac," I whisper. "I can go to the Sheriff. He can help you, this is. This is insane." I say quietly and as quickly as I can manage.

Isaac shakes his head once, his eyes full of fear. "I'll see you in a few days, Malena. Go home." He begs and my heart breaks as I watch his shoulders drop and he shuffles back towards his father who watches me intently until the door closes

A tear rolls down my cheek. I had to tell someone, anyone.

But he was not going to let me.
