*Sonic's POV *
"How is it possible that you guys haven't found them yet? She didn't just spawn out of thin air." I asked as I carried Sage in my arms and sat down on Tails couch.

"We haven't even found a single trace of her. No name. No picture. No one has come up saying they're the parents. I even asked Rouge to use G.U.N. equipment for help. I can't find anything yet." Tails explained. I sighed and put Sage down on the floor. She had begun to try to walk already, giving us an idea that she may be older than we thought she was.

"I mean, I don't mind taking care of her. I've actually grown very attached, but I know she must have a family out there that is worried about her." I said as I held her hands up to help her take some steps forward, but she couldn't keep her balance.

"Yeah, but what are you going to tell your family?" Tails asked. "Aren't you supposed to go see them tomorrow? And then what about when Eggman attacks again? Won't it be better to leave her at an orphanage?"

"I thought about that." I said sincerely. "I'll be taking her with me to the castle and talk to my mother about the situation. I don't know if the best thing to do is drop her at an orphanage. She's too small." My emotions were getting the best of me. I couldn't just leave her. She was already attached to me. It had been almost a month after all. Who knows what had happened to her before I found her.

"If you think that's the right thing to do. I think Aleena is going to tell you the same thing. This type of life isn't for a kid." Tails said, making me laugh. He punched my arm playfully. "You know what I mean. She's too young."

"I know." I sighed as I picked her up again, the sun making her eyes look purple-ish. My heart broke, and I suddenly felt like I needed to cry. "I just can't stop thinking about my siblings and I when we got separated."

"That was different, though." Tails said, slightly uncomfortable and confused when a tear rolled down my muzzle. "Plus! Look at you now! Your family is back together." He said, trying to cheer me up.

"Yeah. I guess you're not wrong." I sighed and cleaned my tears, then put Sage back down. "Sorry. I don't know what got over me." I rubbed my face and then stood up.

"Rouge is having a party in two days. Are you going to be attending? I don't want to go alone. Last time, she made me try a drink. I'm still recovering." He shivered as I laughed.

"I figured she'd do that once you were of age. You can say no, you know that, right?" I walked around a bit, feeling like I needed to stretch my legs since I had not gone out for a run in a while.

"Yeah, I know. Did you want me to take care of her for a bit?" Tails asked. "You can go running."

"Really? That would be awesome, bud." I smiled and nodded, then walked to the door. "I'll be back soon. Everything she needs is in that backpack!" I pointed to the table where I had left it then dashed off.

It felt amazing feeling the wind as I ran again. I didn't want to stop running, and I didn't. Until I saw Shadow running across, I panicked and tripped when I tried to stop, so we didn't collide. Instead, I collided with a tree.

"Are you okay, hedgehog?" Shadow said as he walked to me.

During the past few months, Shadow and I started to 'work' on our relationship. We had been cornered one day by the rest of the team and got an intervention. Everyone was tired and fed up with our fights, so they decided it was time Shadow and I finally got along. It was not a problem for me. It was mainly for Shadow, but I still tried not to bother him as much now. Which meant barely talking to the guy.

"Yeah. Yeah, I'm fine." I groaned and got back on my feet when Shadow extended his hand to help me up. I took it and let go once I was up. "I was trying to stop so we didn't hit each other. I ended up tripping." I laughed nervously.

"Where's Sage?" He asked, crossing his arms and resting back on a tree.

"Tails has her right now. I needed some time to rest and take a run." I explained. I hadn't seen Shadow since the day we fought with Eggman. "Hey, thank you for saving me that day." I brought up.

"Right. Sure." He stood up straight again. "I got to go." He pointed in the direction he had been running towards. I simply waved bye to him, and he left.

It was strange being around him now. He felt like a stranger. We both now just avoided each other at all costs, but if we did see each other, at least it was a civil meet-up. I kind of missed our fights and being around him more often, but I wasn't going to put up with yet another boring intervention. They acted as if I was the problem when Shadow is the one clearly beating me up all the time. All I had been trying to do was be his friend.

It was nothing to dwell on. Maybe Shadow and I were just not meant to be close, and that was okay. Not everyone gets along. Now I have to get that in my head so I can forever leave Shadow alone. He clearly didn't mind it. So I was never going to push it anymore. I tried. That's all that matters, isn't it?

As long as we continued being a good team.

"I'm back." I said as I walked into Tails' house after a while of just running and enjoying my time alone. "I missed you!" I smiled when I saw Sage crawling towards me and Tails following close by. I picked her up and hugged her.

"You're in trouble, aren't you?" Tails chuckled.

"I am." I sighed, realizing how attached I had become of her.
