*Sonic's POV *
"And you trust him?" Sally asked as we both walked towards my room. She had asked to see Sage, so I was taking her to go see her.

"Yes. Well, he hasnt really given me a reason not to. Sure, we fight all the time, well used to. But he's saved my life a few times and always has my back during battles." I confessed. "We don't really talk much anymore. Actually, we mutually decided to avoid each other at all costs to avoid yet another intervention." I nervously laughed.

"Of course you did. You know, to be such a hero, you're always avoiding the hard part of life. Just try to be his friend, but dial down the crazy. Isn't Shadow a more reserved person? He's not used to having someone so hyper in his life." I chuckled.

"Maybe. I don't think Shadow really even wants me around. Maybe if I act a bit more like Maurice around him instead of, well, me, he will, but I am not really Maurice. He's just a facade for when I am here at the castle." I explained as I reached the door. "I guess I will think about i -" I stopped talking as I walked into the room and saw Shadow was asleep on my bed. My ears perked up at seeing him resting.

He'd never actually ever let his guard down around anyone. And seeing him still sleeping even after opening the door was kind of surprising. I shushed Sally and closed the door again, going out of the room as I gently made her walk out as well.

"That's a first." I whispered. "He must be exhausted for him to fall asleep in my room knowing I was going to come back."

"He looked so calm." Sally pointed out, and I nodded.

"Uhm. Let me go in and wake him up. You wait out here. Okay? Just in case." I said, and she nodded.

I opened the door and walked in again, closing the door behind me. I walked closer to Shadow to see Sage awake and playing with a plushy. I smiled softly at her, then looked back up at the one laying on my bed. My hand started shaking lightly from how nervous I was to wake him up. But Shadow seemed to be in a very deep sleep because he didn't even more when I got closer.

I hesitated, taking longer than it should have, but when I saw Sage yawn and start to close her eyes, I knew I had to wake him up. I took in a deep breath and finally started to reach for him. I grabbed his shoulder.

"Shad?" I gently shook him. "Shadow, wake up." I whispered to try and not startle him but miserably failed when my wrist was grabbed and twisted as I got pulled into the bed and rolled. Shadow got on top of me, my back facing the ceiling as he sat on top of me, my arm now behind my back as I tapped the bed to give in.

"Let go!" I gasped and hissed. "I was just trying to wake you up! You fell asleep!" I kept tapping, making Shadow finally let you of me and get off of me. I sighed and turned, remaining laying down in bed as I looked at Shadow.

"I fell asleep?" He asked, and I nodded. He stayed quiet and then looked down at Sage, who was sleeping again. I sat up to see her too, then turned to look at Shadow again.

"You can go back to sleep if you want. I guess the security here is stronger than anywhere else. You were able to drop your guard and have a peaceful rest for once, weren't you? That's how I feel when I am here." I said and patted the spot beside me. "Come on, lay down." He looked at me clearly, annoyed and maybe disgusted with the idea. "Oh, come on. I'm obviously not going to stay here. I'll leave the room and take Sage so you can properly rest. Unless you want me to leave her here too?" I had noticed Shadow also liked Sage but always changed his attitude when he saw someone looking at him.

Shadow kept looking at me, I guess he was trying to decide, but I was getting tired of waiting. I moved forward, grabbed his hand, and then pulled him towards me. I moved out of the way before we collided and then got up. Shadow was shocked and confused as I made him lay back down. He tried to sit back up, but I pushed him down again and threw the blanket over him.

"I'll be back in an hour to wake you up, and we can go back to the others. Seriously, just relax and get some rest. Maybe the lack of it is the reason why you're so uptight." I chuckled, making him roll his eyes.

"You can leave her here." He finally spoke. I'm glad at least he didn't try to leave. He turned around to face away from me, making me smile slightly.

"Okay. I'll come back later. Enjoy." I walked out and looked for Sally, who was now talking to Tails down the hall.

"Hey. Where's Sage?" Sally asked.

"Where's Shadow?" Tails asked.

"They're both sleeping. Shadow actually woke up and nearly broke my arm because I guess I scared him or something. But I told him to get more rest and surprisingly he listened." I whispered to them. "Don't tell anyone. I guess he would actually kill me if he found out. He told me to leave Sage there, so I did." I chuckled.  "I always knew there was a soft spot somewhere under all that anger."

Tails and Sally shared a look, and then they both laughed, making me confused.

"What?" I asked, dropping my hands back to my sides.

"Do you think maybe you liked him all along?" Sally asked, making me tense up.

"I mean, Sonic. You never liked anyone in your bed. You'd always kick us out. Even me." Tails said, laughing softly. "Maybe you were chasing Shadow all these years for other reasons."

"No. I don't think so. I just wanted to be his friend. Plus, it would have affected me more when we started avoiding each other. I don't feel hurt or sad about it." I explained, and Tails shrugged.

"Maybe because you still see him around often. You may not talk, but you two never actually did. Ever. Explore that. Maybe you've always had a secret crush on him." Sally said happily.
