I'll Keep You Safe (Sonadow)

*Shadow's POV*
Eggman attacked at least once a week now, he hadnt been able to get ahold of either Sage nor Sonic as we all made sure they were well protected. Things with the team were starting to crumble. Half of us thought Sonic and I were doing the right thing, and the other half was trying to get us to get rid of her. Give her a better life somewhere to make sure she was safe. We kept refusing.

It had been another 3 months, Eggman refusing to give up, as did we. I spent every morning and after work hours with Sonic and Sage. Sonic had respected my decision on no public displays of affection, but behind closed doors, he would not leave me alone or stop being so clingy. I somehow was okay with this and liked to have him close by. In fact, sometimes I would go up to him and make him sit down with me and have a movie date night, with Sage, of course.

Rose had been even angrier ever since she found out we were actually together and was trying everything in her power to get rid of me. She went as far as to contact foster parents who came to visit Sonics house to meet Sage. They thought Sage was going to go home with them until I managed to scare them away. Which only seemed to cause more problems for us since we got reviewed again to make sure we were a proper fit for Sage.

Sage seemed to always give us luck, we seemed like a happy family when we werent fighting with Eggman or Rose or even Knuckles, and Silver who seemed to not like the idea that we were raising Sage. Miles had given up by now trying to convince us otherwise and came every day as well while I was at work to help Sonic with Sage. He had become just as attached to her and now acted like a proud uncle. Sage could make anyone fall in love with her. Maybe that was her power? Maybe that is what the orphanage was afraid of? It did cause some problems to be as attached to her as we became.

There was still always something in the back of my mind that kept telling me to run, a warning of some kind but I never quite figured out what it ws trying to warn me about. It was as if something was currently wrong, not right around me. It drove me crazy sometimes and made me overthink thinking that maybe Metal was around or Eggman or someone trying to take Sage or even Sonic who I had grown even clsoer to the past few months.

He didnt fail to bring a smile to my face every single day. He always greeted me with a kiss and was always worried about me. Gave me space when I needed it and made sure I was always okay, taking care of myself even though I did. He was just constantly reminding me he loved me and not just with words. I was happy and always looked forward to spending more time with them, especially on my days off where I got to be around them the entire day. I t was exhausting since Sage was begining to get to her 'terrible twos' but she was doing fine. She wasnt as mischevious as everyone warned us about.

I was head over heels for the two of them, I would do anything to keep them safe and keep those smiles on their faces.

"Did you hear me?" Sonic snapped his fingers in front of my face. "Are you there, Shadz?"

"What did you say?" I asked as I shook my head and looked at him, he was happily smiling, looking excited, creating a smile on my face. "Stop looking at me like that."

"Sorry! I am just very happy. My sister called me, she said my mother is getting stuff ready for you at the castle. She is saying to everyone how youre family now and saying great things about you. She really likes you." Sonic wrapped his arms around my neck as I wrapped my arms aroun dhis waist.

"She does? And here I thought your family hated me after your uncle kept me busy at the castle the last time I was there. He had me running around all day." I hummed, Sage was running around with her bat onesie that Rouge had gotten her, flapping her hands where the wings were at.

"That was his way of telling you he likes you. He trusts you enough to ask for your help." Sonic explained and pecked my lips then leaned over the counter to watch Sage. "Tails still hasnt figured out what her powers are and she is still too young to figure it out herself. I feel like I am failing her."

"You are not, we will figure it out sooner or later. Just give it time, at least she is not falling asleep as much as she used to now." I said as I walked to Sage and picked her up, spinning her around like she liked as she laughed even louder. "Spoiled little brat." I kissed her forehead.

"I guess youre right. I just wish at least the orphanage would have said something to give us a small hint on what to do. Tails is working on a ring to help prevent her from using her powers until she is old enough but it taking longer than expected." He explained and I nodded.

"Well, thats okay. She seems happy, and shes healthy. Isnt that what matters?" I asked and he nodded with a smile. I walked closer to him and pecked his lips. "Stop worrying so much."

"Those have been my lines to you these past few months, since when did it change?" He chuckled.

"Since I realized just how happy you make me, Hedgehog." I rolled my eyes. "Do you really want me to stop?"

"No. I love seeing this side of you." He hugged me. "I love you."

"I love you too."
