I'll Keep You Safe (Sonadow)

*Shadow's POV *
It was as if someone had suddenly thrown a bucket of cold water over me. I snapped out of it and quickly took a few steps back, then covered my mouth in pure shock. What did I just do?

I JUST kissed him.

I just KISSED him.

I just kissed HIM.

I tried to stay quiet, noticing that Sage was finally asleep, but my heart was beating a thousand times faster than ever before. Sonic sat up, his face as red as his friend as he stared at me in shock.

"I'm sorry. I didn't mean to -" I whispered as I took yet another step back. Slowly backing into the door and grabbing the door knob then walking out.

I could hear Sonic get up and follow right behind. "Shadow. Wait. What was that? Are you okay?"

*Sonic's POV *
"No. Chaos. What?" Shadow said as he rubbed his face and walked to the front door, but I blocked him.

"Let's talk about this. Okay?" I said, noticing how panicked he was. "Was it because of what Scourge said?" I decided to ask, but he shook his head.

"No. Chaos. Hedgehog. I don't know. I don't know what got over me. I wasn't in control." He turned to look away and started pacing around the room.

"How could you lose control? Does that mean what I think it means?" I asked. Shadow and I had actually become friends by now, I thought we were close enough for him to not growl at me anymore, but I was proven wrong when I asked that. "I am saying because I feel that way, Shadow." I confessed. "I don't know. I just have been feeling that way for a while now, but I wasn't going to tell you anything."

"No. No. No." Shadow repeated as he stopped growling at me and shook his head.

"What? No to liking you?" I asked with a chuckle. "I think it's too late for that."

"No. No to this. I've never lost control of my emotions until now."

"Maybe it was beginning to be too much?" I shrugged. "It happens."

"Not to me, Hedgehog." He glared at me, but I didn't move. "And no to whatever this is either. I can't do any of this."

"What? Be in a relationship? May I remind you that you already are? You're faking one with me anyway. Why can't it be real?" I crossed my arms.

"Because it wouldn't end well. It would NEVER end well for me."

"Why do you say that? Why are you always -"

"Because I would fall for you, you idiot. And I would have to live the rest of my life loving you, not the rest of your life but my life." Shadow walked to the door again. "I can't do this."

"What about Sage?" I reminded him.

"I'll be here every day like I've been. But whatever happened tonight will be forgotten. You got that?" Shadow was about to open the door.

"Shadow!" I raised my voice, making Sage start crying. I dropped my ears and hesitated, but I grabbed Shadow's wrist anyway. I knew Sage was just scared because she had woken up to me yelling, but I couldn't let Shadow go like this.

"We are not done talking." I said. "I like you." I confessed again. "And you like me too."

"Nothing will change." Shadow slapped my hand away and started walking to my room to get Sage.

"Let's give this a chance. You don't have to be afraid!" I said. I wanted him to say yes, and I knew he wanted to as well, but he was holding himself back. "Are you really going to live the rest of your life afraid to get close to others?!" I shouted, making him stop in his tracks. "Is that what you want to teach Sage?"

I asked, and he finally turned to look at me. His expression I could not read, but he walked closer to me in silence. "Do you want her to grow up thinking the way you think? Not getting close to others because she's scared she's going to get hurt?"

Shadow was even closer now. I was beginning to question why I kept talking. "Or are you finally going to grow up and accept this is just how life is? Sometimes you get hurt, and sometimes you fall in love. Are you always going to keep hiding?" I raised my voice again.

Shadow was finally right in front of me. He grabbed my neck and dragged me closer until he kissed me. I grabbed his hand and moved it away, then wrapped my arms around his neck and pulled him lower so I could kiss him back. Shadow was tense, but he pushed me against the wall and wrapped his arms around my waist.

Sage cried a bit louder, making us snap out of it and look at the door. We let go of each other, both madly blushing as we walked to where she was at and sat down on my bed. Shadow picked up Sage and cradled her.

My lips continued to crave his and feel his arms around me, but I didn't say or do anything. I was trying my best to hold back, but when Shadow looked at me, I felt like he was going to lose control as well. Sage soon fell asleep and was put back in her crib, the room finally quiet.

"We can talk about this tomorrow." Shadow said, sounding a bit calmer now. "You should go to sleep. And I need to since I work in the morning too." I nodded.

"Okay." I agreed. "Yeah. You're right. I need to clear my head." Pinched the bridge of my nose. "Sorry."

"It's fine." Shadow stood up. "I'll see you in the morning." He seemed very tired, so he left walking instead of draining more of his energy.

I plopped back on my bed and took in a deep breath. I can't believe that just happened.
