I'll Keep You Safe (Sonadow)

*Sonic's POV *
"Good morning." I said as I walked out of my room and saw Shadow watching TV with Sage in his lap.

"Morning." Shadow answered as he drank some coffee and then pointed at the table. I turned, my ears going up as I saw he had already made breakfast. I smiled and went to sit down.

"Thanks for letting me sleep in." I said as I started eating. He had done this every other day where he'd take Sage if he saw her awake before she would start crying so I could sleep in. "Has she been fuzzy?"

"No. She's been very calm this morning." He answered as he kept looking at the TV. After I finished eating, I walked to them and picked up Sage, then nuzzled her, making her raise her arms and laugh loudly. 

"Sonic!" Shadow quickly stood up and pushed me behind him as he toom out his pistol and aimed at the one who had run inside my home.

"Tails?" I passed Sage back to Shadow and dashed to Tails. "Bud. Are you okay? What happened?"

"We." He panted. "We need help. City. Attacking." He stood up correctly when he caught his breath. "Eggman is attacking the city! We need everyone. He's using everything he has!" He looked at Sage. "You're going to have to bring her."

"Take her?" I looked at Shadow, and he nodded as if saying he'd hold her. I sighed and nodded at Tails. "Fine. Let's go."

We ran as fast as we could to where Eggman was currently attacking, two buildings had collapsed around us a d there was smoke in the air from the fire nearby that was caused by the buildings.

"Really?! You had to bring her?" Amy shouted in disbelief. "She's going to get hurt!" She summoned her hammer and destroyed a robot that was about to attack me from behind.

"She's going to be fine! We won't let anything touch her!' I shouted back.

"This isn't the life for a baby!" Rouge scolded Shadow as she got his back. For some reason, there were more bots going for me than for Sage.

Didn't Eggman say he wanted her? Not me?

"Shut up!" Shadow shouted angrily. I could tell everyone was beginning to lose their temper. Even me. Not good.

"Guys! Snap out of it!" I dashed to Shadow and grabbed Sage from him. "I should have taken her to the castle before we came here." I said once I got the idea. Shadow agreed with me and let me take her. After I dropped her off, I was quick to come back, but there weren't many bots anymore.

"Metal!" Knuckles shouted as he punched him away from me, but I had already gotten hit in the torso and landed roughly on the floor, gasping for air.

I was surprised to see Shadow suddenly appear beside Knuckles and fighting along side him to beat Metal. I stood up and helped the two of them, Shadow grabbing my hand and pulling me out of the way when it was necessary. Knuckles punched Metal in the face, I spin dashed him against a tree, then Shadow chaos speared his chest, finally making him shut down.

I panted heavily and let myself fall to the floor as I tried to calm down and looked around for all the damage that was caused. I could see Shadow glancing at me from the corner of my eyes, I had wanted to talk to him before all of this happened about the day before. I wanted to ask him what it meant, if he was willing to give me a chance even if it meant him going against his fears.

I stood up and was suddenly slapped by Amy. "How could you risk her life like that?" I touched my muzzle where she slapped me as I looked at her. "She could have died! You know very well Eggman is going after her!"

"Is she?" I asked harshly.

"What do you mean by that?" Amy asked, raising her hammer, but Shadow chaos speared it, making her drop it.

"Thanks, Shadz." I thanked him and looked back at her. "I am saying that there were more robots attacking me than Shadow, who was holding Sage. Even Metal tried to attack me. It looks like Eggman does want Sage, but he is still using most of his forces on taking ME." I explained.

"He is right, Amy. I noticed that, too. Some robots even hesitated on attacking Shadow." Tails chimed in.

"We need to find the truth about that kid." Knuckles said. "Where is she anyway?"

"I took her to the castle. She is being taken care of." I looked back at Shadow. "We should go get her. I asked a doctor to give her a checkup again, and he was going to wait for us."

"Are you two a thing now?" Amy asked, making me stop before I could reach Shadow.

"N-" I was cut off before I could answer.

"Yes." Shadow flatly answered with a glare at everyone as I looked at him in pure shock.

Well, that answers all my questions plus some that I was going to ask earlier. Would have been nice if he had properly asked me out before he just said we were, but it is Shadow after all. I am just glad he decided to give us a chance even after all he said. I will do my best to make him happy.

"Are we now~?" I said as I got closer and reached to hold his hand, but he moved his hand to my chest to stop me from getting closer.

"That's enough. Let's go." He rolled his eyes.

Sure, you can't hold my hand now, but when I nearly got attacked, that was no problem? Everyone saw that, Shadow!

"Right." I chuckled and dashed off, Shadow close behind me, though it was easy for him to pass me since I was in slight pain from the fight.

"It is the typical signs of losing energy from overusing powers." The doctor told us once we walked into the infimirary where Sage was sitting happily holding a lolipop.

"Overusing her powers?" Shadow asked.

"She doesn't have any powers." I explained to the doctor who shook his head.

"She has clear signs that she does. Otherwise, she would not be reacting this way. There is no other reason. Have you noticed anything out of the ordinary happening when she is awake?" He asked, Shadow and I looked at each other, but we both had nothing to say about it.

"No." I answered.

"I am sorry, my lord. But there is nothing I can do to figure out what her powers are. You will just have to monitor her." He said as he let me carry her.

"My lord?" Shadow scoffed with a slight smile.

"Shut up." I playfully rolled my eyes. "Okay, that's okay. Thank you." Shadow and I both walked out of the infirmirary.

"So this whole time she's been overusing her powers? That's why she sleeps a lot?" Shadow asked and I nodded. "I havent noticed anything strange."

"Neither have I." I said back as I looked back at Sage. "What if..." I stopped as I looked up again. "What if the orphanage knew?" I said. "They must have since they were so sure they did not want her back."

"Doesnt matter. Shes good. They are crazy."

"Yeah. I guess so. She is good."
