*Sonic's POV *
"No." My mother said as soon as she saw me walk in holding Sage. "No. No. Why do you have a baby? No." She repeated, making me laugh."Isn't she cute?" I said as I grabbed Sages hand and waved at my mother with her. Sage giggling cutely in my arms. Sonia and Manic ran to me since I had already texted them about it.
"Look at the cutie pie!" Sonia giggled and quickly picked her up, giving her kisses as Sage giggled loudly and extended her arms in the air.
"Sonic?" Uncle Chuck said as he stood beside my mother. "Where did the kid come from?"
"Wow, you don't know, Unc? Well, you see, when a man and a woman -" Manic started talking as he wrapped an arm around my neck.
"MANIC!" Both my mother and uncle Chuck shouted, making the three of us laugh. Chuck pinched the bridge of his nose as my mother held her head as if she had a headache.
"Relax." I laughed and grabbed Sage when she reached for me. "I found her in one of our fights. I'm only taking care of her while we find her family." I kissed her forehead. "I was actually told that I should drop her off at an orphanage, but I don't know."
"You should." My mother didn't waste a second to try to convince me to leave Sage. "You're constantly in danger. That's not something she should experience."
"I agree with your mother." Chuck said as she walked to me and picked up Sage. "She's cute."
"I can't." I quickly said when my mother was about to continue talking. "I can't just drop her off. I'll take care of her until we find her family."
"And what's going to happen if you don't? Do you think you can raise a child?" My mother raised her voice then sighed. "Maurice, I am saying this to protect you and her. Things won't end up well if you decide to keep her. I don't want to see you get hurt."
"I know." I agreed. "I can't lie and tell you I am not attached to her already, but I can't just drop her off at an orphanage. Who knows why Eggman was hiding her. I need to keep her safe. She's safe with me and the team." I explained.
My mother looked at me, trying to read me, I guess, but soon nodded. She would always do this. She would stare at us, trying to read exactly how we felt and make her decision based on that. She was very supportive and only ever wanted the best for us. Which is why I knew she'd understand.
"Giving you up was the hardest thing I ever had to do." She said, then looked at Sage. "I hope you know what you're getting yourself into." She kissed my forehead and then walked away.
"You may want to start getting ready. I'll have one of the maids take care of her while the ceremony is going on." Uncle Chuck said as she passed her back to me. I nodded and walked with my siblings to my room.
"A crown, huh?" Manic said as he walked with his hands in his pockets, he'd been avoiding putting on his suit for about two months now and our mother had given up on trying to convince him to put it on.
"At least I will only have to wear it whenever I come over. You can get away with not wearing the suit but not the crown while you're here." I chuckled, Manic was avoiding Sage at all costs. Even when we went down to the orphanages, he would avoid the babies and would go straight for kids who were 5 and up.
"I don't see what's so wrong about wearing a crown." Sonia said. "It's not like we are being crowned kings and queen of the kingdom."
"We had one already, though. Why is this one different?" Manic pointed out.
"Because Ma wants to present us to other kingdoms that we are of age and wants us to find partners." I explained.
"I still don't get it." Manic groaned. "We've had our coronation ceremony already. Why do it again? Just to find a partner? I don't need Ma to play Cupid for me."
"Well, we were too young when we had our coronation ceremony and not the proper training for it. I guess they finally think we are ready." Sonia said as we stood outside my room. My door was wide open, and I could see the maids already waiting for me, my metal plain grey mask sitting on my bed already.
"We are about to turn 27. We've been ready for a long while, but something always came up." I walked in and placed Sage on my bed, surrounding her by pillows since she had fallen asleep.
"By the way, have you told your friends?" Sonia asked, smiling down at Sage.
"Not yet. I was planning to tell them last week at a hangout, but we got attacked by Eggman. Now I don't know how to bring it up." I bit my tongue as I thought of something. "I'll figure it out. They deserve to know."
"Finally." Manic rolled his eyes. "It's about time you finally decided to tell them. Who knows, maybe they can even come over and have dinner here soon."
"Yeah. I don't think that will be happening. I'm still not very comfortable with this lifestyle. Don't need them to see me for who I am not." I said, knowing Manic would understand me better than anyone. He nodded as he grabbed his drumsticks and tapped my head with them.
"Just tell them soon." He walked to the door along with our sister. "We will see you at the ceremony." They both waved as they left.
The rest of the night was pretty exhausting. I had learned to get used to wearing the mask by now, but it was pretty annoying having it on anyway. The event was recorded and was going to be on the news the next day. I already knew Rouge was going to want to watch it before her party, so that's when I planned on telling everyone. Hopefully, Eggman doesn't attack then. Ever since we found Sage, we hadn't heard from him.
That thought haunted me every night. Was Eggman planning on using her?
