I'll Keep You Safe (Sonadow)

*Sonic's POV*
"So we are a thing?" I asked Shadow as we walked inside my home.

"Didn't you want that so badly?" He asked back.

"Well, yeah. I wanted you to give me a chance, I never got a proper answer of that. You just said we would talk about it this morning, and we didn't."

"So kissing you wasn't a good enough answer?" He raised a brow, I blushed. "Fine."

"That is not what I meant! I thought that you kissed me because you wanted me to shut up."

"I killed two birds with one stone."

"That's not fair. I wasn't aware that meant we were going out."

"Well, now you know."

"Okay."

"Okay?"

"Okay. I am your boyfriend." It felt strange saying that out loud, silly, childish even. For chaos sake, we were raising a kid together. Why was it even stranger to think we were a couple?

"Rouge has been spamming my phone." He said as he pulled his phone out and scrolled through all the notifications. "57 missed calls from 'Fucking Bat'." Shadow read out loud. I laughed. He looked at me confused.

"Bat!" We tensed up and looked down at Sage who was walking to Shadow. "Bat!"

"Rouge is going to kill you." I said as I laughed a bit louder. Sage grabbed Shadows leg and wouldnt let him move making him rub his face in slight annoyance then smiled and picked her up.

"You better not say that to her." Shadow mumbled then walked to the couch and sat down. I followed close by, sitting right beside him, leaving almost no space between us.

"What do you think her powers are?" I asked as I leaned closer to kiss his muzzle but he put his hand on my face and pushed me away. Sage laughed as I pouted.

"Maybe she can sense emotions. That would be why she's never scared when we raise our voices. She only cries when we scare her awake." Shadow said.

"Are you never going to let me get closer?" I raised a brow.

"No." Shadow rolled his eyes.

"But then how do you -" I raised my voice without knowing, and Sage immediately interrupted me.

"Bat!" She giggled her new favorite word, making both of us laugh.

"She seems to always do something to snap us out of fights, like when we decided to adopt her, she said her first word, maybe she just a natural harmonizer." Shadow couldn't stop looking at her as I spoke. He then looked at me and leaned closer, then kissed me again.

"You won't let me kiss your cheek, but you will kiss me on the lips in front of Sage? How does this work?" I laughed softly when we pulled away.

He remained quiet for a bit, thinking of what to say next or what he wanted to do. I was not sure. Honestly, just needed him to say something. I wanted Shadow to be comfortable in this relationship, too, so I needed to know what he was comfortable with and what he didn't like.

"Just behind closed doors. Dont you even dare try anything in front of everyone else." Shadow said, and I quickly agreed. I dont think I have ever listened to anything he said as fast as I did just now.

"Okay." I answered. "I understand, I won't." I smiled at him then finally was able to kiss his muzzle, Shadow was a slight shade of pink but he didnt look away, he was staring right into my eyes, as if memorizing how I looked.

I had never noticed he does that. He always pays close attention to others even when he fakes not being interested. It is as if he is engraving our voices in his mind, he was afraid. He was afraid knowing that someday we would not be around and all he would ever have of us was the memories of us around him.

Why was life so cruel to him?

I hope that even after I am gone someday, Sage will continue to brighten his days. Because I know just how much he loves her and even though we just started our relationship, I know I will always try my best to make him happy even if we dont turn out to be end game.

Our story will have a happy ending, I will make sure of it.

"Are you okay?" Shadow asked, concerned as he reached for my face, he lift up y chin and cleared some tears that were rolling down my muzzle. "You are crying, Hedgehog."

I pinned my ears down, suddenly feeling extremely sad. I will make him happy. I will make sure of that. I will make sure he forgets about his fears and is able to live his life without being afraid anymore. He will not lose me or Sage. Ever. I bet my life on that.

"I love you." I blurted out, then covered my mouth immediately.

Shadow chuckled at that. He shook his head and then looked in front of him. "I love you too." He said without stuttering.

So fast. So sincere.

"I wouldn't date you if I wasn't sure of that." Shadow replied. At least he was honest.
