While all of this has been going on, Ethan and Parker has gone out on the journey to find you. Everyone understood that he needed to find you, for Parker, and himself. Even though the man had told Jason they seemed like good people, he couldn't know that for sure, and there was no way of knowing what might've happened when you got there.

He couldn't just sit and wait, he trusted that you knew he would come for you. If you had left, Ethan knew that you would remember everything he taught you and what he had told you to do if you ever got separated, even at a great distance like this. Following those instructions he had a way of finding you.

No one else joined them. Jason really wanted to go with Ethan. If it wasn't for his girlfriend, Molly, being injured after an accident, the two would've joined them. But she couldn't walk such a long and dangerous journey yet, and Jason couldn't leave her. He did offer when Molly said it was okay, but Ethan said he understood and said he should stay with her. It felt awful for Jason and Molly to watch them leave. Ethan had become like a brother to Jason and Molly was your closest girl friend.

...

The journey hasn't been easy, and it was still a very long way to go. And Ethan still just had an area you might've been taken to. It's a big area unfortunately, so when they reach that, they'll have to search all of it. But first they had to get there. There are a lot of close calls with zombies and a few with people on the way. Ethan tries to stay away from other people, not trusting anyone, his only focus was getting Parker to you.

The journey is long and tiring as he has Parker at all times for the first time, being alone in keeping him safe. The two have had to come into a sort of routine to stay as safe as possible on this journey. Parker is very cooperative like always and helps with whatever he can. But on this journey he sometimes has to hide somewhere alone, it was horrible and very difficult for him. It was messy afterwards, with anxiety, panic attacks and nightmares so Ethan tried to keep it at a minimum.

Even though their goal was to find you, Parker's safety and health was a priority. Ethan couldn't leave Parker, though he wished he could've taken this dangerous journey without risking his son's life. But Parker was clear that he wanted to go look for you, and got hysterical when Ethan tried to suggest that he stayed with Jason and Molly while he went to get you. He didn't have to argue long, Ethan didn't want to leave him and he knew Parker was used to travelling like this from before they got to the safe place. On their way, to keep Parker safe and healthy, they often have to stop and stay at places where it's possible to hunt and be safe for a while.

As they travel, Ethan takes notes of the state of the places they go through. Food accessibility or lack of access to a food source. Some rare times they come across animals inside locked barns, still alive. Before leaving, he would give the animals as much hay as he could collect or anything they could eat and hopefully live off of for a while, in case they might come back. He would note down the location, the state of the animal, and how much food he managed to find for it, to have an estimate of how long they might make it. They come across a few places that seem untouched by survivors, but those where the places there still was a lot of zombies around. He notes down how the zombies are slowly deteriorating.

As they travel Ethan gets hopeful about the future, because the zombies really are dying out. Many are weak and not much of a threat anymore, easy kills for anyone skilled enough to travel in this apocalypse. And with a good team and a plan, people could go on missions to take out the places there have become a big crowd of zombies in towns, buildings or an area.

Parker is sad, scared, and misses you terribly. He loved Ethan and know he's safe with him, but he was a Mommy's Boy that's for sure. Ethan does everything he can to make Parker smile and have fun whenever and whatever way they can. They bond a lot during this time alone together. Soon Parker asks Ethan if he can call him Dad, which of course was okay. That night, after Parker fell asleep, he was relieved they weren't sleeping in a tree and had found a house. Bed he had to go out of the room and cry to himself.

Ethan missed you so much, for many reasons. He needed you desperately, parenting is a two person job. Parker needed his mom. And he just missed you too, your laugh, your good night kiss, having you in his arms at night. He needed his family back together.

Ethan stays confident and strong for Parker, but having tried to keep it in for so long, he needed to let the emotions out for a moment while his son slept peacefully in the next room. He felt relieved afterwards and was even more determined the next day to get on their way to find you.
