It's been almost three months since you arrived and you're still trying to find a way to leave, but you're quiet about it. Jackson and a few others your age have tried to get closer to you, wanting you to hang out with them. There's not much spare time from work, and when you do have time, you rather be alone or with Mia. But you do spend some time to get to know them.
Jackson has developed a little crush on you, to all his friend's amusement. He's a great guy and you like him as a friend. But you loved Ethan and you didn't want anyone else, even if he died. Jackson takes the hint, but he's just waiting for you to get over Ethan.
And now Jackson and his friends have told you they were going to camp out in the next section. Most of them were a part of the guards in security at Haven, so they were trusted to go out to camp in the a part of the section that almost completely safe. Only they were allowed to go out to have bonfire and camp once in a while. And sometimes they were allowed to bring a few others.
Knox encouraged the young ones to have fun and be happy like that, as long as they stayed safe and didn't do anything stupid out there.
They invite you this time, but first they have to ask Knox if they can bring you. He is hesitant about letting you join them, but Jackson convinces him that you haven't shown any desire to leave in a long time, so he agrees to let you come with them. When you hear about it, you immediately start planning. You were not missing this opportunity to escape.
Mia is sad you're leaving and you almost offer her to join, but you don't want to put her in danger. But now, you know that you have to come back at some point to get her, after reuniting with your family. You really hoped she would get along with Parker. Mia loves hearing about your family, and she really wants to meet them, especially Ethan. She hadn't met him, yet she already idolised him, wanting to be just like him when she grows up. And Ethan will love her too, you could already tell the two had much in common.
Mia and you have a teary goodbye when you tell her you're leaving. You're thankful she is understanding. You needed to get back to your family, they are your home.
...
You join the group out through the heavily secured front gates of Haven. Getting to the camping spot, you all have a nice time and enjoy the bonfire. When everyone is asleep, except the person taking first shift to stay awake on watch, you carefully sneak out of the tent through the edge on the other side of the entrance. Eventually getting through it, you check if the guard heard you, then sneak away from the campsite.
...
The next day everyone wakes up one by one and doesn't think much of anything. That's until one of the girls asks if you're still sleeping. They then realise you're not there.
Jackson and a few others go to look for you while the rest hurry back to let Knox know. He is upset and joins the guards he sends to get you. He gives one of them a certain order. On their way, they reach Jackson and the others who still haven't found you. They know where you're heading so they rush in hope to find you before you reach the edge of the section.
...
You are so close. Then you hear the engines and your eyes widen in panic. You look behind you and see them. The fence was still too far to reach before they would catch up to you with a car, so you run another direction. They're forced to get out of the truck to follow you. Eventually Jackson is in your path, having went around for them to surround you. Looking behind you, you see Knox coming from the other path.
Jackson and Knox start to approach, so you pull up the guns you had stolen, aiming at both of them with each hand. They raise their hands and try to talk to you, trying to convince you that there is no chance you will survive to find your family.
You see a straight path to the fence and if you run fast you can make it, since they're on foot. This part of the section had been fenced up, but unfinished , there is a way for you to get through. Cars would have to drive around the fence. You make a run for it.
"Do it!" Knox shouts to the guard he had given another order earlier, who was on top of the building, a rifle aimed at you.
"What?" Jackson asks confused, then see the guard aiming at you. "No!"
Then the sniper shoots you in your leg, preventing you from getting away. You exclaim as you fall to the ground. Seeing Jackson running toward you, you try to crawl toward the fence. You struggle with the pain in your leg. Trying to stand up to run, you just fall. Jackson reaches you and stop you from continuing.
You fight in his hold, but now another guard has reached you and helps carry you to the truck, struggling slightly as you trash in their hold. You yell and cry for them to let you go, but deep down you know you can't go in this state, you just knew this was last chance you had to leave.
In the truck, they start to treat your gunshot wound. You just lay there silently, tears running down your face. Jackson tries to hold your hand in comfort, but you snatch it away from him.
...
After that you stayed silent and angry for a long time while you healed. You refused to utter a word in Knox's or the guards presence. You didn't speak to anyone who came to try and talk to you. When Knox came by, even though you refuse to talk, he tells you everything about Mia's situation, and why he needs you to stay.
...
Mia comes into the medbay, you open your arms and she runs to hug you. She climbs onto the patient bed and lay down beside you. You embrace her, kissing her head and stroking her back in comfort.
You realise that you aren't getting out of here, not in a very long time. And by then, you believed that Ethan and Parker will have found you. If not, you would try to leave again. And deep down you knew that when Ethan comes, he's gonna be grateful they stopped you from leaving. So to distract yourself, you just do your work and focus on Mia.
Jackson has taken the hint and is content with just being a friend to you. You even made him aware of a certain someone that seemed to like him but was too shy to act on it. He's surprised with who it is, having never thought about her like that. Now that he was more aware of her, he naturally approached and talked with her more. And as time go on, something sparks between the two. You loved watching love spark like that around you. It reminds you of Ethan, so it also hurts to watch, but you were very happy for them.
At night you would still often cry softly to yourself until you fell asleep, missing your family. You grow very close to Mia, feeling your mother instincts with anything involving her. Everyone in Haven loves what you contribute with and get to know you whenever they have to visit the medbay. They also see the glow you sparked in Mia, the girl being less reserved and showing her true wonderful colours. You really brought out the best in her. And y
You had her in the medbay often, to teach her things. Though she loved learning about it, you could tell the stuff that interested her the most, was things you knew Ethan would love teaching her. She was a cute little tomboy.
You felt like she was the only one keeping you on your feet, it helped to have someone to take care of, when all you wanted was to cry on the floor from how much you wanted your family back. It was horrible to not know where they are, or if they're okay. Some that had lost their families tried to help you, but they didn't believe you when you said your family would come, just felt a bit sad for you, and decided it's just your way of coping for now. Mia having faith in them coming, helped a lot. You never lost hope. Hope and Mia was all that kept you going.
...
You've been at Haven for almost five months now. (I'm not completely sure about the stories timeline yet.) This morning Mia is meeting you at the medbay before school, for you to braid her hair like you do everyday. You brush her long hair in a loving and motherly manner, humming a song as you braid her hair.
She mumbles softly. "I love you."
You hug her from behind and kiss her head. "I love you too, Mia."
