A Darker Love

Chapter Three- The Fight

I woke up the next morning feeling guilty and more tired than usual. I got up and showered then sent Isaac an "I'm sorry <3 x" text but saw I had several from him already. I couldn't be bother scrolling through the rest right now. I checked my phone and saw he sent me just moments later saying "I'm sorry 2, buy u an I'm sorry muffin xxx?" I smiled, "Ur on x". 

I pulled on a pair of jeans and and blue t-shirt with black converse to match. I brushed my blonde hair and put on a little bit of make-up, I looked casual like I wasn't trying too hard.  However, I did fish out my old leather jacket for no reason whatsoever...

I went down stairs and found a tired looking Dad stuffing cornflakes into his mouth. I walked past him with a friendly nod to the jars filled with coffee, tea and sugar.

"Coffee?" 

"Yeah, thanks."

I sifted coffee into two mugs and poured in the water, Dad likes his coffee black so I just left out the sugar and milk. He took the mug off the counter and downed it in a couple of gulps sighing. I was surprised he actually got up today, he looked like he hadn't slept in a week with sad, dark bags under his eyes and messy brown hair. He sighed then got up from his seat and ruffled my hair on the way past, disappearing into his room. I sipped my coffee and ate some toast reading through Isaac's texts which made me feel even worse. He sounded so heartbroken and sad that I'd left him like that and I could almost see the pain in his face through the screen. 

What was I going to do? Kayla was right, I couldn't keep leaving it like this but I really didn't want a relationship right now. Should I just try? What if it didn't work out and I lost him forever? I sighed, no, I wasn't going to do it. Tonight was the annual Stonewell High bonfire that Kayla was dragging me to, I'd tell him right there and then that he needs to stop this because it won't happen. 

I grabbed my bag and headed out the door, Kayla was waiting for me at the bus stop and I was anxious to tell her about what I was going to do. Dad could drive me to school but I preferred getting the bus because it made me feel normal and I could go with Kayla. I pulled me rucksack on and walked down the road before getting that feeling at someone was watching me again. Stupidly, I turned around and saw three of Isaac's "friends" who use to bully me in school until he sorted them out. They never really bothered my went he was around but now he wasn't here my blood went cold. I tried walking faster but before I knew it they are in front of me and crossing the road.

"Hey Sam, long time no see." The biggest one, Kai blocked my way.

"Good thing your boyfriends not here he get's really protective of you, god knows why." 

They all laughed and moved closer to me, trapping me in a circle so I couldn't move. I felt panic rising in me and it was hard to breathe.

"What's wrong Sam? Are you scared 'cause your daddy and boyfriend aren't here to chase the horrible bullies away for you?" 

Kai stepped closer to me, I could feel his breath on my face as put his finger under my chin and forced me to look up at him. "You think you can do whatever you want, don't you? Well, I'm not having your little boyfriend coming in and telling me what to do, 'cause I can do whatever I fucking want. You get me?" He pushed me and I fell to the ground with a thud, bag bursting open and books flying every where. Don't cry, don't cry.

"Is there a problem here?"

I looked up and saw Caleb was standing in front of me, looking small and puny in comparison to the big football players.

Kai looked at him like an angry horse, muscles tight in his jacket like he was going to punch him. "Who the fuck are you?"

He smiled politely at him just like he did at Isaac. "A friend of Sam's. And if there's a problem here..." He stepped closer to him, squaring up to him. "Well, I'll have to do something about it."

He laughed and looked down at Caleb. "Who the fuck do you find you are?" He looked at this other friends. "This dick." 

Kai went to punch Caleb in the face but he caught Kai's fight before it hit him. The three of them didn't know what to do, they were all huge, muscular guys but here was his smaller skinny guy beating them up. Caleb started squeezing Kai's hand, crushing it with his own and making him cower in pain. 

"WHAT THE FUCK?!" Kai and his friends stared at Caleb's face in horror, his friends ran away in different directions but Kai was left stuck and flopping like a fish in Caleb's grasp.

He finally let go and he ran away screaming his head off, terrified of the small skinny guy in front of him. I wanted to see what they were so scared of but I couldn't see his face when I was on the ground.

"You okay?" Caleb stretched his hand out to me and helped me up, he picked up some books that had fallen out of my bag and carefully put them back in. His face looked perfectly normal, chilled cheekbones and dimples when he gave me a cute little smile.

"Thanks." I sniffed, trying to wipe away the tears before he could see them.

"I don't think they'll be bothering you anymore." He smirked and go a tissue out of his pocket and handed it to me. "Here."

"Thanks, again." I mumbled and then I wiped the tears away. "How did you know I was here?"

"I was walking to the bus stop and then I saw them hassling you. What's there problem anyway?" He walked me down the road towards the bus stop.

"They're annoyed cause my friend Isaac, that waiter in the grill yesterday told them he'd beat them up if they bullied me again. I think I'll get really bad next time." I tried to smile.

"Well, if they don't want another broken hand I think they'll stay away from you." He chuckled.

"How did you do that? It was amazing!" 

He shrugged. "If I get angry, I just lash out."

I shook my head. "Still, it was pretty unbelievable." I looked at my watch. "Oh shit, I'm going to be late for school!" 

"Then we'll be late together." He smiled at me.

I smiled back, this was going to be fun.
