The school day ended on a bad note in my next class. I was on my way to Biology when I suddenly noticed it, everyone was staring at me in the corridor like I'd painted my face neon green. My face was actually the opposite end of the spectrum and went a deep red color as more people continued to stare. My lungs started to fail on me so I quickly escaped into the bathroom, sitting on the floor of my cubicle and trying to calm down. Then I heard giggles and the smell of sickly perfume filled the air and I instantly knew who came in.
Madison Murray was in the bathroom with her little girly squad of pretties. They were all giggling at her and agreeing with everything she said, like she was some kind of blonde, teenage Messiah.
"I mean I don't know how she did it, like I mean she was like part of the wall last week and now she's getting her five minutes of fame by getting hurt and hurting other people! It's pathetic really."
They giggled and praised her, I could almost see them nodding their little heads and hanging on her ever word.
"She's not even that pretty, I don't know why Caleb is apparently dating her, I mean he should be dating me."
I gulped. Shit, they were talking about me. I leaned against the wall and tried not to cry, trying to shut them out but their shrill little voices seemed to get louder the harder I tried to block them.
"She's clinging onto Isaac the quarterback as well." She pauses and then I could hear the smirk in her words. "I heard they got it on at the Bonfire party and Caleb doesn't know obviously if he took her to New York..."
"Yeah, he obvs should of took you Mads." I heard the voice of a girl called Polly who was like the second in command to Madison, she was also her own personal parrot.
"Mhmm, do you think I should undo a few more buttons? I want to show some cleavage but I don't want to be too slutty."
"Too late..." I muttered under my breath, I really couldn't stop myself.
"Who said that?!" Madison shrieked. "OMG, there's someone else in here listening in."
"Ewww, gross...."
"What a creep!"
"Let's see who the little snake is."
I heard the click clack of their kitten heels coming towards me and I knew if they nudged the door with just the right pressure the lock would give and they'd see me. I held my breath, waiting for it to happen when I heard another voice.
"Hey Madison, what are you doing?" It was Clara, thank god.
"Some creeps been spying on us in this cubicle."
"Or maybe they were just doing the toilet?" She said cattily and then changed her tone. "Omg, is that the new Jeffrey Star lippy?" I heard her clap her hands, her voice was shrill and strained just like Madison's followers.
"Yeah, I just got it, it's not even on here yet! My Dad got it for me because he knows a guy, neat huh?"
They continued to squeal and talk until Madison and the followers went out of the bathroom, still twittering and giggling.
"You can come out now."
I walked out of the cubicle, blushing and eyes trailing the ground.
"Thanks." I muttered.
"No problem." She rubbed my cheek with her thumb, wetting it and taking the dripping mascara off.

I gave her a tired smile and then grabbed my bag, walking out the door and to my class. I got about half way when the bell rang, signalling freedom and making relief flood over my body. The doors around me opened and sent out swarms of people, filling the spaces around me and stealing the air available. Then a familiar hand slipped in mine and I instantly felt at ease, I nestled into Caleb's strong shoulder and walked with him out the door and into the wide open space where I could breath again.
"I have something to tell you." He said when turned to face me in his car, his face was pale and full of anxiety.
Then suddenly the leather of his car didn't make me feel so relaxed anymore, I tensed up and looked at him with fear. "What is it?"
"It's better if I show you." He went into his pocket and brought out a note, it was old and looked like it was from the 18th century.
I touched it tentatively with a shaking hand, "What is this?" But I already knew the answer.
"Read it." He said in a low voice, I could see that he was shaking too.
I looked at the note, there was only two words on in and they were written in weird copperplate:
Soon ~Mikel
I shivered and dropped it on the floor. "But... but.. but he's dead!"
He shook his head. "No, it takes a lot more to kill someone like Mikel."
"And now he knows were you live? After we killed all of his associates..."
He nodded weakly, turning pale again.
"Fuck...." I gulped and then slammed my fists down on the dashboard.
"I know. I'm sorry."
We sat there in the car for a while until my phone buzzed violently in my pocket.
I pressed it to my ear, "Hello?"
"Hi this is Stonewell Medical Facility, who am I speaking to?"
"Umm, this is Sam Hayes."
"I'm sorry to tell you Sam, but your Dad's been an accident..."
