"Problems?" I shuttered.

"Yes, your medication was a little over the recommended dose I gave you."

I sighed in relief.

"I'll have to speak to my colleagues, hold on." He left me sitting there in his tiny little room alone.

I felt the urge to walk out and tell Dad to take me home but Dr Cawfield walked back in with a swift flick of his lab coat and told me I was free to go. Thank god.

Dad got the medication for me and sighed for it then took me home. I fell asleep as soon as I had taken them and had a long, deep sleep.

When I woke up and started getting ready for school only to remember that today was an in service day so I was off school. I padded into the kitchen in my socks and saw Dad had left me a note with breakfast. It red:

Sam I've made you breakfast, I hope you've got up at a reasonable hour and it's still warm when you read this. Anyway I'll be home a bit late today so I can get some work done, so make sure you pick something for dinner tonight. I can't wait to meet Caleb and tell him to piss off if I don't like him. Love, your ever loving Father x

I laughed and binned the note, I bet he couldn't wait. The breakfast was kinda cold so I put it in the microwave for a minute and it tasted really nice, the egg especially. I switched on the tv and flopped on the couch, ready to have a pajama day when the house phone ran.

"Hello?"

"Hi, Sam." Kayla's voice filled my ear and made me want to slam the phone down.

"What do you want?" I said tiredly.

"I just wanted to talk."

"Well I don't and your disturbing my pj day so..."

"Wait! Look, can we meet up somewhere? I want to apologize from yesterday, you had every right to walk away and throw your sandwich box at me."

"Hmm, my pajama day does sound better..."

"Please? Come on Sam, we can get a Gregs and have a picnic just like old times. You can even bring your Dad's old blanket and invite Caleb if you want."

I thought about it for a minute, I did really like Gregs... "Fine. I'll meet you at the shops in ten."

"Yay! See you in a bit." She sounded really cheerful, too cheerful...

I got changed into shorts and a checked shirt then pulled my hair into a top knot. I texted Caleb and asked him if he wanted to go to a picnic with me.

Hey, do u fancy a picnic?

Hey, soz I can't. I'm running some errands for my uncle upstate but ill be home for dinner with ur dad

It's fine, see u soon <3 x

See you x

I sighed, I wanted to back out but I told myself it would be fun. Me and Kayla use to have these picnics all the time and when we were really small my Mom use to join in. We'd dress up in our Disney princess costumes and she'd pretend to be our loyal servant and give us "the finest sausage rolls in all the land". I was always Cinderella because of my long blonde hair and Kayla was always Jasmine because she looked just like her, we'd bring out all our teddies and dolls and have a magical time together. I know I'm almost 17 now but I miss those days when we were young and care free and Mom was still around.

I went into a cupboard where me and my Dad kept mostly junk and pulled out the old picnic blanket. It was old and had some grass stains on it but it was full of the best memories I'd ever had. I stuffed it into a bag and walked out the door, locking it behind me. I walked along to the shops and saw a summery Kayla waving at me, she pulled me in for a hug and then we went into Gregs and bought sandwiches. I noticed she bought a massive baguette and I pointed to it suspiciously.

"Wow, you must be hungry."

"I am. I got woke up just before I called you so I haven't had breakfast." We walked to the park and the gate brought back so many memories, mostly bad ones from the bonfire.

"So, where should we set it up."

"Hmm?" She looked up from her phone just like she did at lunch yesterday and my hand twitched like I was going to slap her. "Just up this hill here, we want a good view."

So we trekked up the massive hill and we saw a figure standing at the top and waving.

"Who is that?" I suddenly got a bad feeling in the pit of my stomach.

"Babe!" Kayla exclaimed and ran up to him, I had never seen her run up a hill like this before. She pounced on him like a playful cat and kissed him, the toe sting tonsil tennis. I shivered in disgust.

I started to walk away when Kayla ran down and pulled my arm up to him. "Babe, this is Sam. Sam this is Matt."

I turned to face him. "Yeah, he already knows who I am."

Matt looked really guilty and scratched the back of his shaven head. "Hey Sam, how are you?"

"Fantastic." I said sarcastically causing Kayla to elbow me in the ribs.

"Play nice, okay?" She took his hand. "Now, I know you two have had your differences but he's changed now, haven't you babe?"

"Yeah, and I just wanted to say I'm so sorry for everything Sam. I know it's not excuse but I was in a really bad place then and stuff but I'm not that guy anymore. I'm off the drugs and drink and trying to turn my life around, I hope that you can forgive me."

"Sam, do you forgive him?"

"Hmm, we'll see." I said like a spoilt kid.

So I sat down on the rug and had my suppose to be my magical picnic with my best friend. I was defiantly a third wheel as they fed each other bits of their chicken and bacon baguette and licked each other's fingers. I hadn't forgiven him fully but it was clear that he had changed and that he really like Kayla as I'd never seen him do this with any other girl. I sipped my apple juice and wanted to cry, seeing them all loved up made me miss Caleb even more than I already did. I really wished he was here so we could laugh at them and make puking noises, so I could feel his arm around me and I could rest my head on his strong shoulder. I wanted to feel the current flowing between our bodies like I always did when we were together and now I was dying to get him alone and go on this trip with him.

Finally, they had finished their ever lasting sandwich and waved me goodbye. Kayla squeezed me tightly in a constricting hug and thanked me for staying to watch their date. Okay, she didn't use those exact words but thats what this day was all about, so I could see what a nice guy he was to her. I couldn't help but feel like she was rubbing her relationship in my face a bit as I trekked down the hill by myself. I went back to my house and ran into my Dad's arms, crying my eyes out.

"Hey, what's up chicken?"
