I dropped the knife like it burned my hand and fell onto my knees, crying. Was what he said true? Did my mom really cheat on my Dad? I started shaking as all these questions pounded in my head even though I didn't want to find out the answer to them. I stared at the blood on my hands, on my cast and stared screaming, trying to rub them off while Caleb came over and put his arms around me in comfort.
"Shhhh. It's okay, it's okay."
"It's not okay, nothing is okay. Did you hear what he said? I knew really knew her at all and I thought that we were so close."
"Maybe because you were really close she didn't want to drag you into this stuff, because she really cared about you."
I froze for a second as I looked at Dr. Cawfield's body. "I'm blonde."
"What?" He said softly, grabbing a dishcloth and trying to wipe away the blood.
"What if my dad isn't my dad, what is Dr Cawfield is? Oh my god, Dr Cawfield is my dad." I cried harder.
"No! No, he's not." He stroked my hair. "He's not."
"What if he is? What if that's why she told him to protect me?"
"Look, the truth is there is a small chance he could be but it doesn't matter. Even though your Dad might not be your biological one he's still your Dad, your only Dad. If that's what you want."
"I hate Dr Cawfield, he's never going to be my Dad."
"Then he won't be." He pulled me closer. "Your life is what you make it, you can choose not to let him into it if you want to."
"Thanks Caleb." I kissed him through the tears and the sadness only to immediately feel a bit better.
"No, once you've calmed down we can deal with the body and-" He froze, looking at the bloody spot where the doctor's body was a few minutes ago. "Shit."
"Where is he?!" I started to panic.
"I don't know." He got up and picked up a sharp piece of table. "Stay there."
He gave my hand a quick squeeze and then searched around the house carefully. I tried to get up but heard a whooshing noise behind me.
"Caleb!"
Caleb sped in with the piece of wood in his hand, really to attack but the figure behind me had already gone. We heard a noise coming from my room and he sped over to it leaving me alone again. Then a noise came from behind me and Caleb came in again, his had his vampire face on.
"WHAT THE FUCK IS GOING ON HERE?!" My Dad's startled eyes scanned the room looking from the puddle of blood to me laying on the floor covered in it to Caleb holding a piece of wood with a ferocious face.
"Dad!"
He looked like his brain was about to explode his were eyes wide and darting widely around the room, he couldn't find the words to express how confused and angry he was. Finally he managed to get out a sentence. "I'm calling the cops!"
"No! Dad! Wait!" I said as he reached for the phone.
Caleb sped over to him and carefully took the phone out of his hand looking deep into his eyes and doing his mind control thing. "Your not going to do that. Your going to forget that you saw all of this; you went home and checked on Sam, gave her a big hug and now your going to bed because you are so tired after all the work you did at school."
"I'm going to go to bed." He said like a computer programmed to do Caleb's every word.
He walked away from us and into his room and we heard the springs on his bed.
I bit my lip. "Thank you."
He tried to give me a reassuring smile but it didn't come out right. "I think you should go to bed too, you need your rest."
"What about all the blood and stuff?"
"I'll handle it then meet you there if you still want the company."
"Of course I do but what will I do with all the blood on my cast."
He looked at it worriedly. "We'll handle it. Just umm go to your room and take a shower if you can."
"I might need some help." I said sheepishly.
He smiled softly. "Then go to your room and wait for me, I'll only be a second."
I limped into my room and sat on bed, looking down at my casts. I really wanted them gone, they were more trouble than they were worth. I picked at the blood spat on my leg and shivered in disgust, how the hell would we be able to get this off? Caleb came in a while later and helped me get ready for bed, trying to calm me down. He helped me get my pyjamas on.
"Shhh, go to sleep. I'll deal with it." He stroked the baby hairs back from my forehead, smiling sadly at me but I could see him trembling slightly.
"But-"
"Shhh." He gazed into my eyes lovingly and deeply. "It's going to be okay."
