The bus stop that was normally packed full of annoying high school students was oddly empty. It felt really strange but it was nice to actually get to know Caleb a bit more so I could eventually look at him, he was really funny and smart when we got talking. Before long it felt like we had been friends for two years rather than two days.

"So, where do you live? If that's not a creepy question."

He laughed. "No, it's okay. My family have lived here for centuries so I live in the old Boarding House up the road."

"Whoa, it's massive. How long have you been staying there?"

"I came to visit my uncle who owns the place about a week ago. I like this town it's small and quiet so I'm think about staying, at least for a while."

"Where are your parents? Sorry, I'm asking so many questions."

"It's fine, my parents died when I was eight so I travel a lot by myself."

"I'm so sorry, my mom died when I was twelve so I kind of know how what it's like."

"Yeah, I've never really seen the point in sticking around in a place for long but this town intrigues me."

"What about it intrigues you?"

Our eyes connected for a long time, the heat was still as strong but it felt good and I didn't want it to stop.

"The bus is here." He grinned and grabbed his bag off the seat, jumping off.

The bus was full of old ladies on their way to bingo who looked mildly annoyed went they say two teenagers got on laughing and joking around. We sat at the back so we didn't disturb them as much but we still got some shushing. We got off outside school and went into the office to face a stern looking office lady called Miss Walsh, just our luck. The rest of the office ladies were lovely but Miss Walsh horrible, her pasty face was forever angry and ready to give out detentions. The only time you can see a little bit of happiness on her face is went she smugly sends you to the head masters office which I sensed she was about to do now.

"Why are you late? School starts at ten to eight, not half nine." She grunted.

"We got held up." Caleb flashed her a charming smirk like it was his get out of trouble card.

She snorted, sarcastically. "I'm sure the head master would love to hear all about that."

He moved closer to the glass and stared deep into her eyes, cool and casual. "There's no need for that." He flashed the smile again. "Your going to write us a note for our teacher and then let us go to class."

She suddenly smiled, a truly rare thing. "Why don't I write you both a note for your teacher?"

"That would be lovely, thank you."

We grabbed the notes off her and walked up the stairs, I was still shocked from the whole experience.

"How did you do that?!" I pulled his arm gently.

"Do what?" He grinned at me, eyes cool as ice.

"Convince Miss Walsh to do that, Miss Walsh of all people!"

He shrugged.

"Honestly, you must have super powers or something."

"You have no idea."

The school had sent Caleb his timetable so he knew what classes to go to and it looked like he was in a lot of mine. Luckily there was always a seat beside me in the classes I was in by myself because I was too awkward to make friends, nobody wanted to sit with me anyway. We walked into our first class together, History and everyone looked at us in surprise. It was because of three reasons; people who were late went straight to the head master and got into serious trouble, there was a new guy who was really hot and me of all people was with the new hot guy when I was terrible and awkward when talking to new people. The whispers started up as we handed the notes to an angry and stern looking Mr Harris, Kayla stared at me and mouthed "What the fuck?!" I was so relieved that it was her sitting there and not Isaac. We went over to her and sat down while everyone's eyes followed us.

I hated all this attention, I could feel a panic attack coming as I struggled to breathe but Caleb sensed this and tried to calm me down.

"Here." He held a chair out for me. "Sit down here beside me." He me down and then brought a bottle of water out of his bag, handing it to me.

Kayla looked at me. "You okay, Sam?"

I nodded and slipped the water, feeling a bit better when the teacher started talking and the attention was off me and Caleb.

When he left us to work, I filled Kayla in as she stared at us wide-eyed.

"You convinced Walshey to write you both notes?"

Caleb shrugged again. "I don't see the big deal."

"She's a right tight arse!" She shook her head. "You must have powers or something."

I laughed shakily. "That's what I said."

"Why were you late anyways?"

I told her about Kai and his gang and what Caleb did to them.

"I can't believe Kai would do that to you again, Isaac will kill him when he finds out."

"We don't need to tell him, Caleb already sorted it out for me." I smiled at him and he grinned back.

"You have to tell him, he'll find out eventually."

"No, I can't tell him after yesterday."

"What happened yesterday?" Caleb looked between us like he was watching a tennis match.

"Nothing, he was just being over protective."

"He'll find out eventually."

"I'll tell him, but not right now. Promise you two wont tell him?"

They exchanged looks. "Promise."
