LILITH

A knock on the door startled me and I brought the covers up to my chin.

My back was resting on the headboard and I wrapped my hands over my curled legs, resting my chin on my knees.

I was finally home but I was still scared.

The door started to open and I bit the inside of my cheek.

A woman with a skirt and a white shirt walked in, carrying a tray in her hands.

"Are you hungry dear?" She asked hesitantly and looked behind her before she closed the door.

Slowly, I nodded my head twice.

She walked over to me, her hands shaking as she placed the food next to me on the bed.

My stomach growled and I felt my cheek heat in embarrassment.

"Do you remember anything?" Her voice made look up at her. She was probably my mom's age. Her hair was up in a bun and she had beautiful skirt on.

Mom said that I was kidnapped and rescued. I know I was in the hospital but I don't remember what happened to me. I didn't remember anything or anyone. At all. But there was an ugly scar on my face now. I didn't like it.

"No." I whispered.

She nodded her head and I saw panic raise in her eyes.

I didn't like not remembering but as much as I try, my mind was blank.

"Okay then. If you need anything call me or Mrs. Sanders."

"Okay." I whispered again, my eyes going to the food on the tray.

She turned around and walked outside, throwing a glance at me for the last time before she disappeared behind the door.

I stared at the bracelet in my hand.

I remember it correctly. It is the exact same one. The small red diamonds. It was so beautiful and unique yet the sight of it made my chest ache in discomfort.

"Where did you get this?" I asked her and held it in my palm. The diamonds feeling heavy all of a sudden.

My heart rammed against my rib cage as I waited for her answer.

Maria fisted her hands and looked past my shoulder. She was clearly panicking and didn't know what to say.

She opened her mouth but pressed her lips back together.

She had to tell me.

I remember this bracelet correctly. Even though my memories are sometimes blurry, I know that the lady wore this kind of bracelet.

"I..."

She began to speak and I gulped down the lump in my throat.

Please tell me, I wanted to say.

"Mrs. Sanders gave it to me." All of the blood drained from my face and I felt chill run down my spine.

"My... my mom?" The words were barely audible but Maria nodded her head.
