LILITH
The bitter taste in my mouth was burning my throat. I was thirsty.
My eyes were closed and I tried to open them but I miserably failed. The ache in my back made me frown in pain. What was happening? And where was I?
Fingers moved over my hand and someone stroked my hair.
Faint noises started to somehow sound more clear. Two male voices and a female one. I groaned and slowly turned my head to the side.
It felt like I had never moved in my life before.
"Lili?" The male voice spoke close to me.
His warm hand was now on the side of my face, bringing some warmth to my cold skin.
Slowly and carefully, I began to open my eyes.
The first thing I noticed was white. White color was everywhere. Sounds of beeping also joined the sounds of voices.
"Lili, how do you feel?" The male voice said which made me turn to him.
"Water." Was the only word I was able to get through my lips.
Soon a glass of water was brought to my mouth. The cold liquid slid down my throat, making me realize just how thirsty I was.
"How do you feel? Are you okay?" When my vision was more clear, I noticed Lucian standing next to me. Another man moved closer. I guessed that it was a doctor by the way he was dressed.
My gaze moved to Lucian again.
His hair was a mess, all over the place. His eyes looked tired and his shirt was wrinkled which was something he hated.
"I'm okay," I said.
"Are you okay?" The question slipped through my lips when I got a better look at him. He seemed extremely exhausted.
He smiled at me sweetly. "I'm better now that you woke up."
I moved my eyes over my body. The white sheet covering my legs.
The memories started to piece together in my mind. The morning I found out I was pregnant, then when we got to the restaurant. The box I had the pregnancy test in, me wanting to tell Lucian about it.
The pain in my back pierced through me when I remember being shot.
From then on, everything was black. All of my memories fade away.
"Is the baby okay?" Is what I ask immediately, my hand going to my stomach.
Lucian ran his fingers over my hair. The doctors must have told him about my pregnancy. Oh God, what if something happened to my baby?
My eyes welled up and my lips trembled while I waited for his answer.
"The babies are completely fine."
"The babies?"
"You are carrying twins." My jaw almost dropped as I stared at my husband. Two babies? The hand on my stomach stilled.
"Twins?"
"Yeah."
There were two babies in my tummy right now... My thoughts were soon interrupted by the doctor and the nurse.
They checked me up and asked me a couple of questions about how I felt. They were really nice and I was grateful that Lucian was holding my hand and stood next to me because I was still not completely over the fact that I was carrying twins.
