LILITH

I wasn't woken up by my daughters voices, nor I was woken up by Lucian's kisses. My eyes started to open and I stretched my arms above me.

The sun was already out and the birds were chirping outside.

A yaw escaped my lips and I pushed myself up. I ran my hands over my hair and looked at the bed. Lucian was not here as well as our daughters.

Then my gaze went to the small clock on the nightstand. Oh... it was past 9 am. It was my first time sleeping this late since I gave birth.

I quickly got out of bed and went to the bathroom. I brushed my teeth, cleaned my face, and threw on one of Lucian's t-shirts over my body. It reached down to my knees and covered my arms to my elbows.

I clipped my hair up and headed outside of the bedroom.

The hallways upstairs were quiet but as soon as I reached downstairs, I heard faint noises.

A smile reached my lips as I continued to make my way to the kitchen.

I stopped next to the entrance. I folded my hands in front of me and leaned against the door.

It was Lucian and our daughters Iris and Hazel. Both of them were seated on the kitchen island observing their dad while he was making some type of mixture in the bowl.

They were dressed in their onesies with red hearts all over them and their hair was up in small ponytails. Even though they were two, their hair was still pretty short.

Lucian was dressed in sweatpants, a black t-shirt, and had an apron tied around him. Both Iris and Hazel had flour all over their hands and faces.

Iris and Hazel weren't identical twins but they still resembled each other. They had the same hair colour which was exactly like mine. While Iris had her dad's eyes and lips, Hazel looked more like me.

Lucian checked his phone and then added something else to the mixture.

"Good morning," I spoke and all of them turned their heads to me.

"Morning," Lucian said and smiled at me. "We are making you a breakfast." He pointed to all the ingredients on the island.

"Mommy," Iris spoke, her voice soft. She extended her hands and I made my way over to them. Hazel grinned and I kissed her forehead before I picked her up. Then I picked up Iris as well and kissed her chubby cheek.

They were both pretty heavy but I was used to carrying both of them in my arms all the time since they were babies.

Lucian turned to me and leaned down to press a kiss on my lips.

Hazel used that opportunity to extend her hands and reach for her dad. She was more attached to him than to me. Ever since I stopped breastfeeding them, she always looked for her dad first.

"Okay, okay." Lucian chuckled and took her in his hands. She wrapped her small arms around his neck while he continued to work.

"You need help?" I asked him.

"No, thank you. You can just set the table." He kissed my forehead and I nodded.

Whenever he was home for the day, he made sure to make us breakfast. He was usually doing that when Hazel and Iris were still asleep but I guess he wanted some company today. Or maybe they woke up when they heard him.

"Artemio is visiting tomorrow. We have some work to do in the office. And he wants to see the girls." They immediately looked at Lucian as he said the words. They loved Artemio because he brought them gifts whenever he visited. He also does whatever they ask him to do.
