LILITH

We entered the event and I glued my body to Lucian.

Soft classical music echoed through the big space and immediately people's laughters were heard. There must have been more than hundred people here.

They were all dressed in beautiful gowns and suits. We walked through the crowd and I tightened my fingers on Lucian's bicep. I was definitely starting to panic.

Why did the fortune teller had to say that?

Even though I didn't believe her, her words were still not going away. And now that I saw the phoenix at the entrance, my nerves were racing through my body.

I let out a breath and watched as Lucian greeted couple of people. They didn't even glance my way and I was thankful for that.

I wasn't in the best mindset to make conversations with people. There were too many thoughts mingling within my head.

I had to ease my nerves and calm down. This was taking a tool on me. I was worrying myself for nothing.

"What are you doing?" Lucian turned to me and looked down at our hands. When my eyes flew there as well, I realised how hard I was gripping him and digging my nails into the sleeve of his jacket.

As soon as he said that, I immediately loosened my hold and lifted my gaze to him again.

His eyes searched mine for an answer and I became more and more insecure because he was able to see my scars more clearly from standing this close to me.

I turned my head and fixed my hair.

"It's nothing. I'm just overwhelmed. It's very crowded here." I murmured and hoped that he was not going to tell me to let go of him.

At least for now.

I just needed a little bit more time to gather myself.

Thankfully he didn't said anything else but when he moved his hand, I thought he really was going to let go but soon I felt his palm on the small of my back.

A breath of relief left my lips and I held the bag with both of my hands.

Everything's okay, Lili. You are just anxious.

"Lucian? Lilith?" We heard Sloane's voice call out for us.

We spun around and I saw Sloane make her way to us.

A black dress with long sleeves was sneaked over her figure. Her hair was in a low bun and she had less makeup than usual. She was still wearing black and I felt a pinch of sadness for her.

Sloane was always put together and in control of everything but since Sebastian died, she has lost her charm and her the fiery spark in her eyes.

No one was able to blame her though. I couldn't even imagine how hard it was to lose a child.

Frederic was following behind her in his usual attire.

She hugged both of us quickly and retreated next to Frederic.

"I'm glad you are here. People should see you both together." Of course she thought of the image of the family. There were not many people that I knew here so I guess she wanted to show off the new couple.

"You should have put a little bit more makeup Lilith."

My lips parted at her comment but I didn't say anything back. I knew she was right. I gave her a tight smile and felt my shoulders slump.

Frederic shared a conversation with Lucian while Sloane started telling me about some new things she was buying for the house.

I use to wonder why she spoke to me about everything and anything and then I realised that Sloane didn't have anyone to talk to.
