Chapter 22

Third Person's POV

Y/N and Lynx are walking ahead of the group, chatting and laughing. It's been easily over a year since they've last seen each other, so there was a lot to catch up on. Y/N can be a touchy person with her friends, so any time Lynx made a joke she would push him on the arm and burst out in laughter. A small blush would rise on his face, but he would do it best to keep calm and collected, something Y/N didn't notice. To anyway it looked like the two were a couple walking the street, but to Y/N, it was just her catching up with an old friend.

Behind them was the Straw Hats, watching them instead of looking around the city. Luffy was watching them interact and felt very annoyed. He was genuinely confused as to why he felt annoyed though. Whenever you bantered with Brook and he asked to see your panties, he didn't get annoyed. He would just laugh. Whenever you helped Sanji in the kitchen and he got heart eyes, Luffy didn't care one bit and easily devoured the food you helped make. When you trained with Zoro, he didn't care then either and had fun betting on who would win. Every time you catch up with Jimbei and laugh over stories, Luffy would beam at the sound of your laughter and the sight of your smile. And when you'd bathe with Chopper or help him with medicine he didn't flinch one bit. But something about Lynx rubbed him the wrong way. He didn't know why either. He seems like a really good guy and any friend of Y/N's is a friend of his as well. The way he was looking at Y/N and smiled made the hairs on his body stand up and his attention go high alert. Like he was waiting for something to happen, but he had no idea what he was waiting for.

"You're thinking too hard. I can practically see smoke coming out of your ears." Sanji broke Luffy's train of thought. Luffy turns around and watches Sanji walk over to him, puffing out smoke. Luffy just stares, not sure what Sanji meant. He was sure smoke wasn't coming out of his ears. Sanji sighs and removes the cigarette from his mouth, holding it in his right hand and putting his left hand in his pocket. "What are you thinking about so hard in that empty head of yours, Luffy." Luffy hums and tilt is his head back and forth. He peaks a look over at Y/N and Lynx getting further away and he tsks unconsciously. Sanji laughs and nods, putting the pieces together.

"I see. You're jealous."

"Jealous?" Nami runs over and peers over Sanjis shoulder to snicker at Luffy.

"Ooooh~ Is our captain the jealous type?" Luffy crosses his arms and tilts his head to the side. 

"What does 'jealous' mean?" Sanji and Nami look at each other and look back at Luffy. They knew he didn't have experience with relationships, but it surprised them he didn't really know anything at all. 

"Jealousy is an emotion you feel when you could be envious of someone. Like when you look at Y/N and Lynx, you feel envious that they're so close with each other whil you're back here, stuck watching them." Robin answers, walking over to the trio. Luffy nods, starting to understand what this feeling is. 

"Ok I get it. But why am I feeling it?" Robin chuckles and smiles. 

"Well, it's obvious to everyone that Lynx has a crush on her. Seeing them together makes you feel that jealous feeling since you two are together." Luffy pauses and quickly turns to watch Y/N and Lynx get lost in the crowd. Luffy feels the bitter emotion nip at his feet, telling him to chases after the two of them and pull them away. It's possessive, but he can't help feeling it while watching them interact. 

"I wouldn't worry Luffy." Jimbei walks up to the four of them and smiles wide, ruffling Luffy's hair. "Y/N definitely doesn't feel the same way. From what I remember she used to laugh at the idea of dating, so the fact you're together with her is a huge thing. I wouldn't worry." Jimbei's comment fills Luffy with clarity. It made him remember when Y/N told him she's never dated before or felt the same emotions he was feeling before just like him. It fills him with some pride and that inky green jealousy ebbs away. Luffy smiles up at Jimbei.
