Third Person POV
The once warm air in the kitchen on the Sunny turned sour. Jade was doing what she could to keep calm in this mess that seems to be too far gone. Luffy was quietly fuming at the end of the table. He was just waiting for the opportunity to jump in and say his part. He was honest to a fault, and he still honestly has no idea why they left Y/N to fight alone. They were all ready to fight, so why did they run? He hated running when he knows he can win.
Robin took a relaxing breath in and turned to look at Jade who was sitting to her left. "Y/N had already left the crew before the fight had happened." Jade let out a long sigh.
"Why am I not surprised. Like I said, she's known to just run off." Robin shook her head.
"It wasn't just because she felt like it. We put her in a situation she probably felt cornered in." Jade tilted her head, looking confused. It wasn't like Y/N to ever feel cornered. She started to feel more annoyed by the second and the conversation just started. Her small trust for the crew dwindled.
"What do you mean."
"It was probably her scar. She said she got it when she was kidnapped by the Government and Nami pointed it out." Everyone turned it Luffy. Jade's eyes widened.
"How do you know about her scar." Her voice depended and a scowl grew on her face. Luffy started to pick at his food again and shrugged.
"She told me about it." Nami looked back and forth from Jade and Luffy. She waved her arms in the arm and held her head.
"Wait... The thing I saw on her back... it was a scar? I thought it was a recent wound she got and I misted wanted Chopper to look at it to help." Jade clicked her tongue and leaned back in her seat.
"No. Luffy's sadly right. I don't know what she's told everyone, but her determination for ending the World Government and the Celestial Dragons comes from a place of hurt and anger." Jade picked up her tea and swirled the liquid inside. Her scowl dropped into a deep frown.
"We know she was taken by the World Government to take down Shanks." Sanji mentioned, taking his seat next to Ussop. Chopper jumped up in his seat and spoke up.
"Yeah and that she ate this experimental Devil Fruit." Jade nodded and took a sip of her tea. Her throat felt like it was closing up, and she hoped the tea would keep her mouth from drying up.
"So you know most of the story. I meet her when Shanks brought her on Pops' ship."
"Pops... Wait. Do you mean Whitebeard?!" Ussop chimed in. Jade hummed in agreement. He leaned back and let out a closed mouth scream.
"Exactly. Shanks needed his help to break her out, and in turn, he would have a favor to owe Pops. Shanks was up and coming fast, and it was a deal Pops didn't want to miss. He's a family man as well at heart, and hearing Shanks story broke his heart. He was quick to go after Y/N and help her out." Everyone nodded and leaned in closer. It was obvious they were getting into the story.
"So that's how you two meet right?" Franky asked.
"Yeah. I was on his ship shadowing Vista, learning how to be a swordsman." Zoro looked up at this, suddenly interested. Luffy sat up and gasped.
"You're a swordsman just like Zoro?!" Jade smiled slightly.
"I am, and a better one for sure." Zoro clutched his swords.
"Wanna test that?" Luffy did his signature laugh while jumping up and down.
"I wanna watch!" Jade waved her hand.
"I have no intention to fight. My only goal right now is to get to Y/N and bring her home." Luffy frowned and sat back down.
"Boriiiiing." Jade snorted and took a sip of her drink. The sour feel of the room lightened up, and the air felt easier to breath in.
"Na!Hahaha! That would be a SUUUPPPPEEEER fight." Franky locked his arms together and posed. The Straw Hats laughed while Zoro eyed Jade up. She looked back and smirked.
"If you like what you see take a picture." She flicked her hair off her shoulder and crossed her arms over her chest. Zoro clicked his tongue and looked away.
"As if." Jade rolled her eyes and finished off her tea. Sanji took her cup and got up to fill it. He put it back down and she smiled up at him.
"Thank you." He paused for a second and got hearts in his eyes.
"Of course my lady!!" Jade backed up a little, very confused by his sudden change of heart towards her. Nami sighed and placed her head on her hand.
"Don't worry about him. Now back to the story! I want to know what happens next." Jade nodded and gave Sanji a quick side glance before taking a sip of the tea.
"Y/N traveled with us for awhile and we became quick friends. We were the only kids on the ship and we got along well. Pops helped her ground herself and find love her her Devil Fruit. A lot of how she runs her crew it actually because of Pops. She's got a soft spot for troubled people. That's how a lot of our crew came about. They had similar thoughts about the Government and were hurt, so she asked them to join us on her mission to take them down and become her family." Jade smiled, remembering Y/N offering her hand to everyone who needed her help. To anyone who was looking for a new family. "She got the scar because she fought back against the Navy that were... testing to see if her abilities came in. They said if she wanted to show her claws that ad they'd show theirs back, and they whipped the claw scar into her back." Gasps unfolded across the table.
"No way..." Nami said, covering her mouth.
"That's horrible. How could they do that to a kid." Brook said, his face turning into a scowl. Luffy sat there quiet, his head down. His hat covered half his face. Jade held the tea in both hands, welcome the comfort the warmth gave her to push on.
"Her scar is a sensitive topic. If you brought it up or saw it, it makes sense why she'd run. She doesn't like to talk about it. It's a part of her past that keeps her heart locked down. It's why I can't trust her when she runs off by herself."
"Oh? But she's your captain. You really don't trust her?" Robin said surprised.
"Captain or not no, I don't trust her. How can I when she runs away like this every time. She's going to get herself killed at this rate because she takes too many risks. Whether she has connections or not she can't keep running around like this." Jade slammed a closed fist on the table and signed. "Would you trust Luffy if he left the crew for long periods of time like Y/N?" Everyone went pale and quiet. Jade blinked, looking around at everyone. "What's wrong?"
"So, you can't trust me?" Jade tensed up and slowly turned. At the door to the kitchen stood Y/N, holding the door open. All the talk covered the sound of her steps and the door opening, giving her plenty of time to hear Jade talk.
Chaos erupted on the Sunny.
