12:25 A.M.

This is definitely not how I imagined the night turning out. My favorite girls came to surprise me, and somehow we ended up being the ones caught off guard.

"Beyoncé, drive faster!" she shouted, clutching her stomach. She was in distress crying and shaking.

I reached over and grabbed her hand while my other was on the wheel, "I'm trying baby"

The phone rang, and I answered swiftly, keeping my tone steady. "Update me. What happened?"

The nurse's voice was clear and professional. "Her grandmother brought her in after she began seizing. We were able to manage the seizure, but afterward, Amora continued crying, holding her stomach in pain. She's currently hyperventilating and asking for her mother. Additionally, her blood sugar levels are low, which may be contributing to her distress."

I inhaled sharply, steadying myself. "What are her vitals?"

"Her heart rate is elevated, her oxygen saturation is slightly low due to the hyperventilation, and her blood sugar is concerningly low, but we're managing her condition and keeping her stable for now."

"I'm on my way. Please reassure her that we're coming."

"Yes, ma'am. We'll be ready," the nurse replied, and I hung up.

Turning to Nicki, I said, "She's asking for you, and her blood sugar is low. I'm going to figure it out, Nic."

She just turned me out wiping her tears.

We rushed through the hospital doors, the weight of it all hitting us the moment we stepped inside.

Nicki's hand was trembling in mine, and I squeezed it tight as we approached the nurse's desk.

"I need Amora's chart," I said, trying to keep my voice steady.

The nurse handed it to me quickly, and as I flipped through it, I saw our nurse approaching.

"She's still in a lot of pain," she said softly, her face showing concern. "Her blood sugar is stabilizing, but her stomach pain is intense. She's been asking for her mom."

I nodded, not saying anything. The only thing I could think about was getting to Amora. We followed the nurse down the hall, and as we got closer to her room, I heard it.

"I want mommy!" Her little voice was cracking, and it tore through me like a knife. She was crying so hard I heard her cough between sobs.

"Owwiee!" she cried out again, making my heart drop.

Before I could react, Nicki broke her hand free from mine and ran straight to her. I stood back for a moment, watching her reach the bed, her face filled with desperation.
