March 10, 2024I stood by the lab counter, leaning against it as Dr. Perez scrolled through Amora's latest test results on the tablet. I tried to focus, but part of me couldn't stop thinking about Friday—Nicki and Amora would be here, and I was already counting down the days.
But for now, I had to stay present. Amora's health was what mattered most.
Dr. Perez sighed, tapping the screen a few times.
"Well, it looks like her physical condition is showing some improvement. But honestly, I'm not seeing much progress with her cognitive functions."
I frowned, looking at the graphs. "Yeah, her body's responding, but her brain... it's like the meds aren't getting where they need to. It's frustrating."
"Exactly," Perez agreed, rubbing the back of his neck. "We could increase the dose, but we're pretty close to the limit of what she can handle. Pushing it could do more harm than good."
I shook my head slightly, feeling the weight of it all. "She hasn't had any recent seizures, which is a good sign. But we still need to figure out what exactly is causing all of this—and her pain. We can't just keep administering medicine without knowing what we're really treating."
Perez nodded, his expression serious. "You're right. The meds are only addressing the symptoms, but we need to get to the root cause."
Before I could say more, Lena, who had been quietly watching, chimed in. "What if we change how we're giving it to her?" she suggested, stepping up to the table. "Instead of oral medication, what about a patch or something like that? It could release the meds gradually, maybe giving her brain more time to process it."
Perez looked over at her, considering. "A transdermal patch... it's worth a shot. If we can deliver it slowly, it might be easier on her system, especially her brain."
I raised an eyebrow.
"That could actually work. We'd have to run some tests first, though, see if her skin can absorb it properly."
Perez nodded, making a note on his tablet. "We'll add that to the plan for Monday when she comes in. Better to be safe than sorry."
Lena smiled a little, giving me a reassuring look. "It's a small change, but it might be what we need. We'll keep a close eye on her."
I felt a bit more hopeful, knowing we were trying something different.
"Yeah, let's do that. I just want to make sure we're not rushing anything, but at the same time, we can't afford to wait too long."
"Agreed," Perez said. "We'll take it step by step."
As they went over the rest of the treatment options, I let myself relax a little. We had a plan in place, and that was all I needed for now.
