Same Day

Michelle returned to her seat in front of Amora, noticing how intently the little girl was focusing on her coloring. Michelle gently cleared her throat to draw Amora's attention.

"So, Amora," Michelle began softly, "I heard you have been having feelings that you're tired. Can you tell me a bit more about what you mean by that?"

Amora's crayon paused mid-stroke, and she looked up at Michelle with a weary expression. She didn't say anything right away, her silence speaking volumes.

Michelle waited patiently, her tone gentle.

"It's okay, you can tell me. What does 'tired' feel like for you?"

Amora fidgeted with the corner of her coloring book, her fingers trembling slightly.

She finally spoke in a small voice, "I'm tired of hospitals and doctors. They keep poking me, and I don't like it and the shaking."

Her voice wavered, and Michelle noticed her shaking, the crayon almost slipping from her hand. Michelle's eyes widened with concern.

"Shaking?" she asked softly.

"Her seizures," I said quietly, trying to keep my voice steady.

Michelle turned her attention back to Amora.

"You just want them to stop, right?" Michelle said and Amora nodded.

I watched Michelle as she spoke softly to Amora, trying to provide comfort. My heart ached seeing Amora's tears, and it was tough to keep it together while Michelle worked her magic.

Michelle noticed the tears streaming down Amora's cheeks and gently asked, "Amora, I see you're crying. Can you tell me what's wrong?"

Amora's voice was barely a whisper.

"I just want to go to sleep forever, but I can't."

Michelle's concern was evident. "Why do you feel that way?"

Amora looked down, her small body shaking. "Because mommy will miss me."

My heart sank hearing that. It was clear how much Amora was struggling. Michelle's next words were soft and comforting.

"Amora, it's very sweet that you care so much about your mommy. I can see how much you love her."

Michelle reached out slowly, asking gently, "Can I hold your hand for a moment? It might help you feel a little better."

Amora nodded, and Michelle took her small hand in hers.

She continued, "But remember, your mommy loves you more than anything, and she wants you to be happy and healthy. You being here with her means so much to her."
