It was Valentine's Day, and I was in New York, ready to surprise my two girls. Nicki was officially moving next month into a cute condo she found for them.
I couldn't wait until she was finally in Houston full-time. She was two months pregnant now, and I still couldn't get over how emotional I was at our first doctor's appointment. I was really about to be a parent.
It was around 7 a.m., and I was on FaceTime with Amora while she was getting ready for school.
"And Mommy's been throwing up so much, it's nasty."
I laughed. "Your sibling is making Mommy sick."
"But why?" she asked, confused.
"Because the baby's making room in Mommy's tummy, and it's upsetting her stomach."
That's when I heard Nicki's voice in the background, "Amora, did you put your clothes on?"
Amora's eyes went wide as her door opened, and Nicki stepped in. "Amora Noelle, why are you still not dressed?"
Amora, without missing a beat, blamed me. "Because I'm talking to Mama!"
I laughed, and Nicki looked at me through the screen. "You and Mama are gonna get in trouble."
I shook my head, still smiling. "Now, how did I get in it?"
Nicki gave me a playful side-eye. "Because you're not telling her what she needs to be doing."
I raised my hands in mock defense. "I didn't even know she wasn't dressed, baby. Don't start with no attitude."
Nicki rolled her eyes, but there was a smile tugging at her lips. "So, it's funny how today is Valentine's Day, and we didn't get not one gift."
Amora chimed in, mimicking her mom. "Yeah, Mama!"
I smiled. "It's coming, I promise. I had a busy week, so it's coming a little later."
Nicki crossed her arms, clearly playing around. "Mhm."
I asked her how she was feeling, and she sighed. "Your baby is making me sick every damn day, and I have to pee every two seconds."
I softened, feeling bad for her. "Aww, my baby. I'm sorry."
Nicki huffed. "Yeah, you honestly should be. I forgot how miserable the beginning was."
I chuckled, loving how she always kept it real with me. "I'll make it up to you, I promise."
"How?" she smirked.
"Girl, stop being nasty. That's exactly why you're pregnant now" I said and she cackled.
