Beyonce Knowles
Houston, TX
December 2, 2024I blinked my eyes open, feeling the weight of Nicki's head resting on my chest. She was knocked out cold, snoring lightly, her breath warm against my skin.
I smiled to myself, still feeling the exhaustion from the night before, my body heavy and sore. After the eighth round, I thought, I'm surprised we didn't pass out sooner.
Nicki had so much energy, more than I thought possible, but we'd both had some alcohol in our systems, and that had pushed us further than I expected.
Carefully, I shifted Nicki off of me, moving slow so I wouldn't wake her. She let out a small grunt but didn't stir much, her body curling into the sheets as I slipped out of bed. I walked into the bathroom, the cool tile feeling good against my bare feet.
Reaching for my toothbrush, I caught a glimpse of myself in the mirror, my hair a mess, lips swollen, love marks all over, my skin glowing. I laughed quietly and brushed my teeth, then splashed cold water on my face.
The shower knob squeaked as I turned the water on, letting it heat up, but then I heard my phone ringing from the bedroom.
I sighed, walking back out to see it was already 7 a.m. Too early for this, I thought, until I saw the FaceTime notification. It was from my mother, but before I could even answer, I knew who'd be holding the phone.
I picked it up, and sure enough, Amora's little hand filled the screen, way too close, her hair wild and all over the place. I chuckled.
"Mama!" she yelled, her voice piercing through the morning silence.
"Yes, baby?" I answered, a smile spreading across my face.
"Where's my mommy? I miss her!" she said, her voice impatient and loud. I couldn't help but laugh at her demanding tone.
"You don't miss me?" I teased, raising an eyebrow.
"Yes, but I want my mommy!" she pouted, her bottom lip sticking out in that way that always made my heart melt.
I smiled softly, feeling warmth spread through me. "We're coming, baby, I promise."
I got in the shower and washed myself up and my hair and got out, I was hoping Nicki would've joined me.
I wrapped the robe around me. Amora had to go to the hospital tomorrow, so today we were going to spoil her. I walked over to Nicki, still knocked out, and tapped her.
"Baby, you gotta get up," I said softly.
"No," she groaned, pulling the covers over her head.
"Come on, Amora's waiting for you," I said, shaking her again.
Nicki whined, "I'm tired, Beyoncé."
"Girl, get up"
Nicki sighed, finally opening her eyes. "What time is it?"
