Neither of us said a word for what felt like forever. She'd hurt me so bad, I didn't even know what to say. She kept fidgeting with her fingers, stealing glances at me every few minutes.

I sucked my teeth and turned to head back into the house.

"I'm not in the mood," my mother said, pointing right back outside. I hadn't even fully stepped inside yet.

"Mom, I don't have anything to say."

"Beyoncé Giselle Knowles, get back out there and talk to that woman. Now," she ordered, her tone firm.

I let out a sigh and shut the door behind me, dragging my feet back to the patio. I sat in the chair while she stood there.

"Beyoncé..."

"Yeah?" I pulled out my phone, scrolling through nothing, just trying to distract myself.

"Can you at least look at me?"

"Nah, I can hear you just fine," I shrugged.

She sucked her teeth, snatched the phone from my hand, and shoved it into her back pocket.

I held out my hand, annoyed. "Give me my phone back."

"No. I need to talk to you. I'm sorry... so fucking sorry. I never should've said that to you," I admitted, watching her nod.

"Don't apologize for how you feel. Now I know, and I can act accordingly," she said calmly.

"That's not it," I said, shaking my head. "I was just upset. Beyoncé, this is all too much. Amora being in the hospital, plus Jayceon... it's overwhelming."

"How are you stressed about something you caused?" I asked, finally looking at her, confusion all over my face.

"What are you talking about?"

"You called him. You texted him. He wouldn't have shown up if you hadn't picked up the phone after I asked you not to," I said, my voice rising a little.

"You see..." she pointed, sighing. "You're not even realizing that you're telling me what to do with my life. That's her father at the end of the day, Bey."

"This conversation is going nowhere," I said, leaning back in my chair.

"Because you don't want to hear the truth. At the end of the day, Jayceon is her father. I was doing the right thing by informing him about his daughter's sickness. That's all," she said.

I still couldn't understand it.

"But why?"

"Huh?" she asked, confused.

"Why? If he hasn't been there for her, why tell him? I know you're saying you're trying to do what's best for her, but he hasn't even stepped foot in the hospital to see her."
