Onika Maraj

May 17, 2026"So let me get this straight," Beyoncé's voice cut through the air, making my heart race.
I knew where this was going. I could feel it in the way she held her phone, not even looking at me, just scrolling like this wasn't a big deal.
"He kissed you last night, right?" she asked.
I swallowed and nodded, "Yes."
She glanced at her phone again. "And it's 2 in the afternoon now, right?"
"Yeah," I muttered, already sensing the storm coming.
Beyoncé chuckled, the sound low and sharp. "And you're just now saying some shit?"
"Baby, listen—I'm sorry, okay? At least I'm saying something now," I offered, hoping it would ease the tension. But I knew I was already in too deep.
"At least?" Her voice raised slightly, and I could feel her anger bubbling just beneath the surface. "At least, like you're doing me a favor or something?"
"I'm sorry, I should've told you last night. I was just... caught off guard," I said, reaching for her hand, desperate to calm her down. But she pulled back, and the distance between us felt even bigger.
"I'm tired of you not communicating with me, Onika. What's so hard about telling me the truth as soon as it happens?" She pointed at me, and I knew she wasn't going to let this slide easily.
"I know, Bey... I know," I said softly, feeling small under her gaze. "I wasn't trying to hide anything, I promise."
She nodded, but it wasn't a sign of forgiveness, just acknowledgment.
"So he followed you outside?"
I nodded again, feeling the weight of every word. She was processing it all like she was piecing together a crime scene.
"Stalking," she muttered. "Okay... and he kissed you against your will?"
"Yes."
"Sexual assault." Her voice was calm, but that calmness terrified me more than her anger.
And then she chuckled, which sent a chill down my spine. "And you said you were defending yourself, and that's why he's beat up, right?"
I blinked, confused. "H-huh?"
She looked at me, dead serious. "Right, Onika? Self-defense?"
I nodded quickly, understanding where she was going.
"Right," I whispered.
She nodded back, her expression still tight, but she reached for my hand this time, and I held on like it was the only thing keeping me grounded.
