Warmer temperatures ushered in the spring season, but despite how much Lyndsey and Tatum's relationship had evolved, friends still viewed their union controversially. They planned to travel that summer regardless, to see the world as they'd intended, and the possibility of visiting Sabrina added to their excitement.
Today, however, the couple took advantage of the warm climate and toured an elaborate resort along England's east coast: The Elmley Nature Reserve.
"It's gorgeous," Tatum proclaimed while gazing out at the North Sea.
Lyndsey moved closer, nestling against her.
"I'm glad you approve."
Lyndsey was naturally romantic, so choosing such a sentimental setting wasn't surprising. Besides, they both wanted to explore the feelings of love and devotion that had grown between them.
"I'll get us checked in," Lyndsey whispered before heading toward the reception area.
The cottages were decorated almost entirely in eighteenth-century style--one of the many elegant features that typically drew guests to the Ferry House. Additionally, the stunning panoramic views of the North Sea and neighboring Scotland also created excitement. So, while Lyndsey handled the arrangements, Tatum explored the coastline and savored nature's splendor.
But even amid such exquisite beauty, she felt preoccupied. Sabrina had unknowingly offered unique insights into upcoming events, leaving Tatum unable to trust anyone completely.
Still, Sabrina was perceptive, and despite her own skepticism, Tatum respected her friend's intuition. Beyond that, with difficulties ahead, speaking with her best friend had become essential. Meanwhile, Lyndsey had grown more observant and seemed determined to keep Tatum distracted.
"Taking in the sights?" Lyndsey asked, approaching.
Tatum smiled but then noticed something alarming. On Lyndsey's left index finger was an unusual gemstone--a crimson ruby. The sight stunned Tatum, confirming the validity of Sabrina's predictions.
Karen's complaints had been deeply personal, and she had clearly influenced Lyndsey's judgment, making her vulnerable to manipulation and unable to resist certain temptations. Because of this, Tatum wanted to confront her about it but instead remained silent.
"Something like that," she replied.
"Our room is ready," Lyndsey announced.
Tatum followed, though she remained captivated by what she recognized as Karen's gift. Though, she also wondered why Lyndsey hadn't mentioned the ring earlier--or worn it before now. With this realization, what had seemed like an innocent getaway suddenly took on a different purpose entirely.
