Inevitably, as the term concluded, final grades weren't the only urgent concern. Interestingly enough, Trina and Jasmine were still missing, and thus far, the inquiry into their whereabouts proved inconclusive.
Drawing on this, classmates sought explanations despite their gravest suspicions. Even worse, another cause for worry had arisen: Karen had gone in pursuit of the impossible: immortality. By coincidence, Jordan had a colleague -- Carl Turner, working for the Norwich Constabulary.
Conceivably, he thought to have noticed Karen in a local Norwich bazaar days before. In which case, her father introduced a photo, and the recognition was instant. On a related note, Carl didn't often encounter girls like Karen, thus remained confident in his conclusion.
Around that same time, the common grew crowded, though for Alex, Tatum, and Lyndsey, it remained a time of contemplation. For many months, Kyle and Logan's presumed involvement, coupled with Karen's absence, heightened anxieties throughout campus.
It is therefore, after a lengthy but passionate dialogue, Alex made an abrupt choice. Later that afternoon, Alex, Tatum, and Lyndsey arrived at Karen's Norwich residence, only to discover the retreat extensively cloaked within a well-guarded encampment. Which suggests there'd be time to look around and ask questions. Thus, based on Carl's admission, the local in-town market remained the preferred place to start.
"Hello..." he greeted, nearing the counter. "I need some help."
"How can I assist you?" the cashier answered.
Gradually, Alex presented a photo.
"I'm looking for this girl."
Following, the tiller squinted.
"Oh, that's Karen."
Surprisingly, his eyes swelled.
"You've seen her?"
"Often..." she added. "Her parents own a villa not far from here."
"Yes, I know..." he retorted. "Did she mention anything about staying there?"
"No, she doesn't talk much."
In frustration, he recoiled.
"But..." the attendant continued. "She's never alone."
Squinting, he froze.
"Meaning?"
"Again this morning, for instance, she was with the same group of people."
Suddenly, Alex presented several more photographs.
"By chance, is this the group?"
Instantly, the cashier gestured.
"These girls stayed with her..." she explained. "Although, the two guys often wait outside."
Upon leaving, he peered into the dusk, as Tatum seemed poised, though eager for news.
"So?"
"Karen's coven is here..." he clarified, pulling away. "Seeking the spirit and dominion to command it."
"That's impossible, even for them, isn't it?" she charged.
"It's why they came to Norwich."
For now, Tatum eased, though by mischance another obstacle would soon arise as they surveyed the lodge: entryways stood guarded, and only Karen could grant passage.
