Pursuing Sabrina had suddenly become possible, though acquiring the needed warrants would prove challenging. However, with the American Embassy's cooperation, the investigation could proceed regardless of international law. Meanwhile, Daniel and Sean had settled in a remote location: the Clover Cliff Bed and Breakfast in Cottonwood Falls.

"We need that order," Daniel said, closing the door behind him.

"Schultz and Landry will have the paperwork ready," Thomas replied. "In the meantime, what about the message from Mr. Dyson?"

Stern slipped into a nearby chair. "That's something I haven't figured out yet."

Thomas leaned forward. "What do you mean?"

Daniel reviewed several documents spread across the table. "Why would he contact me after so long?" He looked up, frowning. "Plus, judging by his tone, he seemed eager to talk."

Thomas sneered. "He's protecting Sabrina and gathering intelligence."

Stern stood and began pacing. "Funny thing about that."

Thomas squinted. "I'm listening."

"He wouldn't talk before," Stern continued, "so what's his motive for coming forward now?"

Sean grabbed a folder and glanced over its contents. "Doesn't matter. He could be more involved than we thought."

Stern clutched his satchel and began organizing materials. "They belong to the same synagogue."

"Correlation?" Sean inquired.

"I don't know, but I hope he has answers."

"I suspect it's all a ploy," Sean stated. "But with everything that's happened, he has a right to be fearful."

Daniel had felt optimistic since the start, yet Thomas seemed discouraged by Stern's consistent theorizing.

"What's going on?" Sean asked as Daniel parted the drapes.

"He's right on time," Daniel announced before approaching the door.

Sean stood. "Who are we expecting?"

"None other than Marc Dyson." Daniel opened the door. "He knows everyone involved and requested this meeting."

Sean looked shocked. "You think he'll actually talk?"

Daniel shrugged. "We're about to find out."

Marc immediately noticed Sergeant Thomas upon entering. "Who's he?"

Stern smirked. "My partner and liaison in this investigation. Is there a problem?"

Marc settled into a chair after an exchange of silent glares. "No. No problem."

"What can you tell us?" Stern asked.

Marc cleared his throat. "I am certain Sabrina was involved in Trina and Jasmine's murders."

"Because?" Thomas prompted.

"They opposed witchcraft on campus, and she took exception."

Stern looked confused. "Are you saying she killed them over a difference of opinion? That seems a bit extreme, don't you think?"

"Not when the future of a species is at risk," Marc replied.

Daniel stared at him. "How did you learn about a homicide that happened overseas?"

Marc grinned. "I know people. Let's leave it at that."

Daniel glanced at Sean, recalling the endless days of interrogations. Yet despite the varying alibis, one distinction stood out: each student knew at least one cult member. Given this circumstance, could such an affiliation have resulted in murder?

"Mr. Dyson, what exactly are we dealing with?" Thomas asked.

Marc leaned forward. "A lineage of authority that's existed for over a thousand years."

Thomas snickered. "Let me guess--a cult uprising sprinkled with a touch of the supernatural. This ought to be good."

Marc scowled. "It's good you have a sense of humor. You'll need it."

Daniel stood and began pacing.

"What is it?" Thomas asked.

"It's the same thing Luen said about the Solomon girl." Stern stopped and stared at Marc. "What the hell is going on? First, the mysterious deaths of two coeds, then repeated implications of dark sect leaders."

Marc smiled. "In that case, you know about Karen's affiliation with the Lady of Victories?"

Stern spun around. "Yes, but what's the connection to Sabrina?"

Marc rose from his chair. "Rival temples. But unlike Karen, Sabrina's a second-generation elder of Saint Anthony's."

"And the daughter of Harold and Katherine Morgan," Daniel interjected.

Marc nodded. "Exactly."

"I've read about her," Thomas said. "She allegedly murdered her husband and vanished with two children."

"Sabrina has a sibling?" Daniel asked.

Marc smirked. "An elder sister--seven years older. Samantha."

"Where can we find her?" Daniel inquired.

Marc chuckled. "You won't have to look far."

"Meaning?" Thomas whispered.

"When you threaten Sabrina, she'll find you."
