Daniel sat in stunned silence, baffled by what he'd just learned about the family's history for the first time. However, now that he knew about Samantha, was it possible she could have been helping Sabrina?

Stern stood up abruptly.

"Why didn't anyone mention this before?"

Marc stepped closer.

"No one knows anything for certain," he answered, "but rest assured--you won't confront the Morgans without resistance."

Stern moved closer as Marc glared at him.

"Will it escalate that far?"

Marc scowled again.

"You have no idea," Dyson interjected. "Once the coven wars begin, humanity will experience great suffering."

Stern grimaced.

"The misery of two families is more than enough," he said. "Yet, an arrest and conviction would bring them peace."

Marc tensed.

"Peace is a long-forgotten concept, Detective."

"Look!" Daniel snarled. "This isn't some supernatural fairy tale! Two girls are dead, and there's nothing amusing about that!"

"No, you need to understand!" Marc shouted back. "Trina and Jasmine were just the beginning--no matter what we do, they won't be the last."

Stern stepped closer.

"Let them all know we'll be ready."

Marc glanced over his shoulder.

"I hope that's true, Detective. For your sake."

Afterward, Daniel sat quietly, but Marc was right--he needed to know more. Above all else, he'd dedicated his life to helping others and to a career that had brought more hardship than reward. But, as long as the case remained unsolved, he wasn't giving up.
