In the war between the strongest, rules are often broken...

I could hear the metals rumbling. I knew, that in rules of war, it clearly shows that one shouldn't attack an enemy kingdom after sunset. And it was a long time after the sun had set. A rule of war was broken.
I then realized, "Everything is fair in love and war." And here, it was both love, and war!

But what about the Queen? She wasn't alive anymore. Because I knew a women like her would never have a tear in her eyes.
We rushed to our house, which I knew couldn't save me from the swift swords that made screeching sounds in the quiet night.

Soon, the quite atmosphere diminished, and turned into frightening sounds. The people's snoring turned into people screaming. The wind carried blood in it. The trees shivered, tiny stones rumbled, and a wave of fear spread through the Queendom. Even if the news reached the palace, there was no one to command for counter-attack. What could a commoner do? Hide? Only if there was a place to.

Nishant was not there. There was a thin possibility that he knew we were going to be attacked. We needed to contact Nishant at any cost. But how? I didn't know.

More slashes, more screams that kept depressing me. Sheetal was more terrified than anyone in the house. She tried to hide behind the huge metal box of clothes, shivering.
Sahil tired to be calm, but he had no option but think furiously about the situation. He took rounds at the same place, forcing his brain to work. His one palm stayed on his forehead, shifting his hair.

My mind went so feral that I said something like this,
"Should we build a tunnel from the house?"

"And what?"

"And-... escape...?"

"Stop stressing your mind. Just stay quiet. You're distracting me. As far as I see, we're dying at any moment. This test isn't from any person, it's directly come to us, from destiny itself."

This statement was from the same Sahil that told me not to worry when we were going to be sentenced to death. It actually meant that there was no way out now. The time was going to continue as usual, with the absence Suzanne and Sahil in the universe.

Hours passed like years, and I yearned for a way out. I saw a ray, but not a ray of hope. The sun had risen, but there was no difference in the atmosphere.

The window was slashed off, and pieces of wood were fallen in the floor like it was a death trap. We hid ourselves like there existed no living being in the house since years. It was the reason we survived till the sun rose. Till then, the door opened. I identified that it would be a soldier. I knew my death for certain. I took in a deep breath.

We all came out. The door shut.
"I need skilled civilians. I can't trust anyone in the Palace. The Queen is missing, too. The Army commander has taken charge. We have no options currently, but I wish to use tribal skills for a while. The situation is such, that I can only trust you. Please."

We both agreed. He was in a complete metal armour, with a heavy sword, probably a bit bigger than him.
"Sister, please, break some of the fragile items with this sword. And then hide like there was no living organism ever in this house."

"But why Nishant?"

"Just do what he says please. Don't make too much noise."
Sahil added.

I didn't understand at first, but then I realized that if items are broken, it would be an indicator that soldiers have already attacked here and left. She broke a pot, removed the lock of the metal box, shifted the woven bed and mixed some of her mom's vermilion with water and splashed it on the wall.

"There was noise, that too in a house, where our troupes are not targeting, but the enemy is. I shouldn't go out for a while."
Nishant said.

I replied,
"But no one would notice in this chaos."

"There is one who would notice these smallest things. The son of the Army commander. He's one of the sharpest observers and the best swordsman in the Queendom. We don't hand information on who is he siding with. Sahil should go, but I can't give him my armour, because it's the one that only I wear, and-... A little small for him."
He tried to smile to lighten the atmosphere, but the atmosphere was so thick that we could hardly take in the little joke coming from him.

"Brother, you remember my father had treasured his armour? It is still kept with me. I'll get it."

Sheetal treasured the little memories her parents had left behind her.
Sahil wore the armour, took a sword. He put pieces of the broken pot and put it on the armour. He went out and dusted them.

Sheetal then cramped her legs and hid in the metal box, the one she broke the lock of. Because normally a person would never hide in a place that was easy to open, and so, no one would check a place like that.

I wrapped a dupatta on my face, my eyes open. I gazed back at the house once, smiling. I didn't know when I was returning back, and I didn't even know if I would like coming back or forget this place forever. It all depends on how this war turned out. My head tilted to the other direction, my mind recalling all good moments I had here. My feet felt heavy, like I had a huge burden on my head.

I left from there. Nishant would join in afterwards.

As I was walking, I saw an enemy soldier running towards me, eyes and mouth wide open, indicating the 'hunger of winning.'
"HYAAAH!!"
