A month had passed since the tumultuous events in Germany, and now back in England, Beth found herself seeking solace in the familiar pages of her journal. Seated at a small desk in her bedroom, she poured her thoughts onto paper, her pen moving in rhythm with her slowly healing heart.

The soft knock at the door pulled Beth from her reverie. She looked up, her expression softening as the housemaid appeared in the doorway.

"Miss Ann is here to see you, ma'am," the maid said, her voice gentle.

Beth's face lit up with a warm smile, a spark of joy igniting in her eyes. "Please, let her in," she responded eagerly, setting her journal aside and straightening in her chair.

The door opened wider, and Ann stepped inside, her presence filling the space with an unspoken comfort. Beth's heart fluttered at the sight of her, a gentle smile tugging at her lips as she stood to greet the woman who had been her anchor through it all.

"Hey," Ann said softly, closing the distance between them. Her eyes, filled with both love and concern, met Beth's as she took her hand, their fingers naturally intertwining.

Beth returned the smile, a mixture of peace and nervousness swirling in her chest. "Hey," she whispered back, squeezing Ann's hand gently.

There was a moment of quiet, the kind that had become familiar to them—comfortable yet charged with the weight of unspoken words. Ann's gaze searched Beth's face, looking for any hint of doubt or hesitation.

"You're sure about this?" Ann asked softly, her voice careful, as though she didn't want to disturb the fragile calm that hung between them.

Beth's expression softened, and without a second of hesitation, she nodded. "I've never been more sure of anything in my life," she said, her voice steady but filled with emotion.

Ann's brow furrowed, a flicker of uncertainty crossing her features. "It's a big step. Your family... our families... They might not understand. Are you ready for that?"

Beth gently pulled Ann closer, her other hand lifting to cup Ann's cheek. "They might not understand right away," she admitted. "But they'll see. They'll see that this is the best decision for us."

Ann's heart swelled at Beth's words, and she leaned into her touch, closing her eyes for a brief moment as if to savor the certainty in Beth's voice. "You're incredible, you know that?" Ann whispered, her voice thick with emotion.

Beth smiled, her fingers brushing softly against Ann's skin.

Ann opened her eyes, her gaze locking with Beth's, and in that moment, all her lingering doubts melted away. "Okay," she said, her voice barely above a whisper. "Let's do this."

Hand in hand, they turned toward the door, the weight of their decision resting lightly between them. With a deep breath, Beth led the way, her heart pounding as they descended the stairs.

The sound of their footsteps echoed softly through the house, and as they reached the landing, Beth could already feel the eyes of both the Munroe and Aegon families waiting below.

Everyone was gathered in the grand living room, the air thick with anticipation. Beth could sense the tension, the unspoken curiosity that hung in the room as they entered, hand in hand.

Frank Munroe's expression was one of cautious curiosity, while James Aegon's eyes flitted between the two women, a mix of concern and understanding in his gaze.

Beth and Ann exchanged a brief glance before stepping into the room fully, the quiet murmurs of conversation fading as all attention turned to them. Beth's heart raced in her chest, but Ann's steady presence beside her gave her strength.
