Nightmare's POV:

The conversation had shifted, with Crescent talking about various things and Killer listening silently. But those earlier words had remained etched in my mind, echoing like the tolling of a bell.

I moved away from the door, feeling disoriented. I had simply decided to follow Crescent to ask him what he'd like for dinner, and this interaction had unfolded very differently than I expected...

I retraced my steps, returning to my quarters, the darkness of the place proving less comforting than I had hoped. I sat on my bed, feeling the room's chill seep into my bones. My thoughts were entangled with Killer's words.

What had happened? What had Cross and Error told him? And above all...

How is it possible that he still has feelings for me at this point?

The question felt almost unsettling. The idea of still being important to Killer was... disconcerting.

At first, I'd only seen him as a loyal subordinate, a weapon at my disposal. I'd never allowed myself to consider the possibility of forming a deeper relationship.

And yet... his constant presence by my side, his fierce way of defending me, even the sarcastic humor he sometimes directed at me... everything about him had stirred feelings in me that I never imagined I'd be capable of feeling in my entire life.

"What should I do now...?"

...

~A few weeks later~

Narrator:

The atmosphere in the castle had shifted slightly. Cross, true to his meddlesome nature and his growing conviction that Nightmare and Killer needed a nudge to progress down the path he desired, had begun orchestrating chance encounters between them.

These ranged from conveniently leaving a book from Nightmare's office in the common room, just as he knew Killer would be passing by, to attempting to organize a game night that, to his frustration, quickly descended into chaos because Dust and Horror had made it their new mission to prevent Killer from having any time alone with Nightmare.

Killer, for his part, watched Cross's attempts with a mixture of amusement and discomfort, while Nightmare had spent the entire night without saying a word as the others played.
