Still on a mission to impress Faye Malisorn
Golf day
Ling sat in her Porsche outside the exclusive golf club, her fingers gripping the steering wheel as she took a deep breath. She'd spent the past hour mentally preparing, Orm's voice still echoing in her ears from their earlier phone call.
"Relax, baby," Orm had said, her tone comforting. "Just be yourself and let Faye win. She hates losing, so trust me on this—it'll make things smoother."
Ling rolled her eyes at the memory. "Easier said than done. It's already weird enough that she invited me"
"And hey," Orm had added, softening her voice. "Yoko and I are at the spa, so if anything weird happens, just text me. I'll come to save you."
Ling had chuckled at that, feeling a bit of the tension ease. It helped knowing that Orm was nearby, just in case. But deep down, a nagging thought lingered. What if this is a trap? The unresolved Vietnamese case flashed in her mind. Still, this was her family's club—if anything went down, they wouldn't dare try it here. Faye's family was also present, after all.
Just handle it yourself, Ling. Play it cool, she thought to herself, straightening her posture. She grabbed her golf bag, tossed the valet boy her keys, and made her way toward the golf course, looking the part in her all-white Hermès outfit. She had one goal: impress Faye Malisorn.
Faye had invited her for a casual day of golf, something that felt too laid-back considering the cold, calculated nature of the CEO. But Ling knew better than to think this was just a friendly hangout. There had to be more to it.
As she stepped onto the field, she spotted Faye instantly. The woman, in her usual sharp and commanding demeanor, was laughing with a group of friends, a glass of wine in hand. Despite the casual setting, Faye still exuded that air of authority, a reminder that she was always in control.
Ling approached cautiously, trying to mask her nerves behind her sunglasses. She greeted the group politely, exchanging pleasantries with strangers. The only familiar face in the crowd was Engfa, Faye's assistant, who gave her a nod of recognition and a smile.
One of the women, Lux, a playful and boisterous presence, greeted Ling with a friendly pat on the back. "Kwong, right? Finally able to formally meet you"
Ling forced a smile, resisting the urge to stiffen at Lux's overly familiar gesture. Here to impress Faye. Only Faye. The rest can fuck off.
As much as Ling wanted to keep her tough guy image, it's hard. She needs to loosen up to Faye. Tough guy to tougher guy? that won't make me anywhere near her family
Faye, who had been in the middle of a conversation about an upcoming F1 race, glanced in Ling's direction. Her eyes briefly met Ling's before she turned back to her friends, continuing to chat as though Ling hadn't arrived.
