"Professor Oobleck?" Weiss raised an eyebrow.
"Nope. Have fun girls." Y/n said, spinning on his heel to walk away.
"Nuh-Uh, no you don't." Yang smirked, grabbing Y/n by his tail.
Y/n yelped as Yang grabbed his tail, freezing in place with an wince. "Ow! Yang, let go! You know how sensitive that is!" He protested, trying to pull away from her grip.
Yang grinned mischievously, holding on tighter. "Oh, no, you're not getting out of this one, little brother. You're coming with us. We're a team, remember?"
Ruby stepped forward with her usual cheerful energy. "Come on, Y/n! You can't just bail on us like that. We're a team!"
Weiss crossed her arms, giving Y/n a pointed look. "You can't just bail on us. Besides, you're the one who's always saying you're great at everything. Shouldn't you be eager to show off in front of a teacher?"
Y/n shot a look of pure disbelief back at Weiss. "Oh yeah, because running around with Professor Coffee Addict while he speaks at a three-hundred miles per hour is my idea of a good time."
Oobleck suddenly appeared in front of Y/n's face, "Doctor Coffee Addict. I didn't earn the PhD for fun, thank you very much! Now, seeing as you've opted to shadow a Huntsman on what is now essentially a reconnaissance mission. I can assure you, we will not be establishing a single base of operations. ...is that a dog?" Oobleck asked leaning toward Y/n who had Zewi in his arms.
Y/n blinked, still recovering from the sudden appearance of Doctor Oobleck right in his face. He instinctively pulled Zewi closer to his chest as Oobleck leaned in, scrutinizing the dog with his usual rapid intensity.
"Uh, yeah, this is Zewi," Y/n said, trying to back up a bit but failing since Yang still had a firm grip on his tail. "He's kind of a... team mascot?"
Zewi wagged his tail, completely unfazed by Oobleck's scrutiny, and gave a happy bark.
Oobleck pushed his glasses up, his eyes widening with excitement. "Fascinating! A canine companion! You know, dogs were often used in ancient times for reconnaissance missions and could sense Grimm before humans could even spot them. Their olfactory senses are-
Y/n sighed, cutting him off before Oobleck could launch into a full lecture. "Yeah, yeah, dogs are great. But what about this mission? Are we really gonna be running around with you talking a mile a minute the whole time?"
Oobleck blinked, momentarily caught off guard by the interruption, but quickly recovered, adjusting his posture with a small smile. Oobleck zipped around the group speaking fifty words a second. "Rather, we will be traversing several miles of hazardous wasteland and making camp in any defendable locations we may stumble upon. I packed all of our essentials myself, plotted our air course, and readied the airship."
"Come now, children according to my schedule, we are already three minutes behind!" Oobleck stares at the group silently before clarifying. "Schedule!" He zips off to the airship docked farther ahead in a second.
Ruby as positive and upbeat as ever. "Well, alright, then! Looks like we're going to save the world with Doctor Oooobleck- okay yeah when you say it out loud it sounds worse." Ruby's voice becoming more downcast as she spoke.
"Save the world?" The group turns around to see Nora and Team JNPR approaching.
Nora ever the drama queen. "You're going on world-saving missions without us? Me? Y/n, how could you? I'm hurt... sad!" Nora's stomach rumbles interrupting her for a second. "Maybe a little hungry? That last one's not your fault, though, Ren..."
