Jungkook hovered quietly in the corner of Jin's room, watching the boy cradle the small kitten in his arms. Jin’s face was lit up with pure joy, his earlier loneliness and boredom forgotten. The way his smile curved so naturally, his eyes shining with that unfiltered wonder—it tugged at something deep inside Jungkook.

He didn’t understand it. Why did watching this human stir such strange, unfamiliar feelings? He’d watched over countless people before, but this… this was different. His chest felt warm, like it was buzzing. His heart, once so steady and calm, seemed to beat faster whenever Jin smiled. Jungkook’s wings fluttered softly, as if they too were reacting to these foreign emotions.

He floated closer to Jin, still invisible, his eyes never leaving the boy’s face. Why am I so drawn to him? Jungkook thought, perplexed. What is this feeling?

He’d heard the humans call it something… something that made them feel warm and happy. Could it be… love? No, that wasn’t possible. Angels didn’t fall in love. They weren’t meant to.

But still, as Jin laughed softly, playing with the kitten and smiling up at the glowing fireflies, Jungkook felt an overwhelming desire to protect him. To stay by his side. Is that love? he wondered, feeling a bit of panic at the thought. Or something more?

His wings fluttered anxiously, but no matter how much he tried to push the thought away, his gaze remained fixed on Jin, and his heart continued to beat faster. Whatever this feeling is... I want more of it.

Jungkook stood frozen in the heavenly realm, feeling out of place as the Leader of the angels, Kwang Dong Wook with his vast wings spread, eyed him sharply. The vast expanse of clouds and golden light around them contrasted sharply with the warmth Jungkook had just left behind in Jin's small, firefly-lit room.

Why am I here? Why did they summon me? Jungkook thought, the feelings from moments earlier still swirling in his chest.

Jungkook stood at the center of the heavenly stage, his wings folded neatly behind him as he faced the leader of the angels. His mind was still spinning from the sudden call back to heaven, and the thought of leaving Jin, even for a moment, made him feel uneasy. He couldn’t shake off the image of Jin’s peaceful face as he had vanished from Earth, and that gnawing feeling in his chest only grew.

The leader’s voice boomed through the celestial realm. "Jungkook Jeon, what is taking you so long? Haven’t you finished your patrolling on Earth yet?"

Jungkook swallowed, feeling a flicker of panic. He had never been late or distracted from his duties before, and yet now, he was faltering. But why? He quickly tried to gather himself, forcing his voice to remain calm. "There’s… this human who needs a lot of help. So, I’m staying beside him for the time being," Jungkook explained, hoping his excuse would be enough.

The leader’s eyes narrowed. "You sure?" The question hung in the air, as if the leader could sense something deeper, something Jungkook himself wasn’t fully aware of.

Jungkook nodded, perhaps a little too quickly. "Of course," he said, his voice firm. He wasn’t entirely sure why he was so determined to stay by Jin’s side, but the idea of leaving him, even temporarily, felt wrong. He needs me.

The leader gave him a long, scrutinizing look. "Very well. But remember your purpose, Jungkook. Don’t stray from the path. You are there to guide, not to get attached."

The last words rang out with a weight that made Jungkook’s wings flutter uncomfortably.

He bowed slightly, acknowledging the command, though the knot in his chest tightened.

"Yes, sir," Jungkook nodded firmly. He didn’t know why, but the words tumbled out of him so naturally, and it wasn’t until he said it that he realized—he’d just lied. Lied for the first time ever.

His heart pounded as the truth hit him—he wasn't there for duty, or even for protection anymore. He was drawn to Jin for reasons he couldn’t fully comprehend. What is this feeling? he thought again, but pushed it aside, determined to protect Jin, even if he didn't understand why yet.

"Very well," the Leader said, turning away with a flick of his wings. "Return to your post. But don’t linger too long on one human, Jungkook. You know the rules."

Jungkook bowed his head, the tension in his wings easing slightly. With one last look around the heavenly realm, he whispered to himself, I’ll be back to you, Jin. I promise.

And with a snap of his fingers, he vanished back to Earth, eager to return to the presence of the human who had unknowingly turned his world upside down.

What is this human doing to him?

Jungkook stood silently, his wings folded behind him, watching as Jin hurriedly got ready for school. This morning, something was different—Jin seemed more alert, as if his usual sleepy haze had cleared. Jungkook tilted his head, intrigued by the change.

Is he worried? Jungkook thought, watching Jin glance towards his mother's bedroom door with concern.

Jin walked to the door and knocked softly, Mum, you asleep? His voice was quiet, but the worry was evident.

From inside, Mrs. Kim's weak voice replied, "i'm fine... just a little tired."

Jin frowned, clearly unconvinced. "Mum, wait... let me make some porridge for you." He quickly started towards the kitchen, his steps filled with determination.

"No, don’t! You’ll be late for school," Mrs. Kim called out, trying to stop him.

Jin shook his head, smiling softly, "Don’t worry, I’ll be quick."

Jungkook watched as Jin’s face grew more tense. His hands moved with precision as he prepared the porridge, but his eyes kept darting back to the door, clearly concerned for his mother. For the first time, Jungkook felt an unusual tug in his chest.
This human... he wasn’t just kind or shy. He was deeply caring, in ways that went beyond what Jungkook had seen in others.

Once the porridge was ready, Jin carried it carefully to his mother’s room, sitting beside her on the bed.

"You should rest more, Mum. Don’t push yourself," Jin said softly, feeding her a spoonful of the warm porridge.

"It’s just a cold," Mrs. Kim tried to smile, but the tiredness in her eyes gave her away. "Besides, who’s going to look after you if I’m lying around all day?"

Jin pouted, "i can take care of myself, you know. I’m not that clumsy."

Mrs. Kim raised an eyebrow, "Not that clumsy? Please, I remember when you tripped over your own feet trying to walk to the fridge."

Jin laughed, his face lighting up for a moment. "Okay, okay, maybe a little clumsy. But still, you rest. I can handle breakfast and school."

Their playful banter filled the room with warmth, and Jungkook couldn’t help but smile from his invisible perch, hovering nearby. He glanced between Jin and his mother, feeling an unfamiliar swell of pride at how gentle Jin was with her.

Even though Jin denied being clumsy, Jungkook knew better—maybe even just as well as Jin's mom did. He’d seen Jin stumble over almost anything, whether it was a crack in the sidewalk or his own feet. Yet, despite his clumsy nature, Jin moved with a certain grace when it came to others, especially his mother. Jungkook couldn’t help but smile at the thought.

Why do I feel this way? Jungkook wondered, his eyes never leaving Jin as he continued to feed his mother with such care. Why do I want to take care of this human so much?

It was strange. Angels weren't supposed to have these kinds of emotions—especially not for humans. But there was something about Jin's clumsiness, his sincerity, and the way he cared for others that tugged at Jungkook’s heart in a way he’d never experienced before.

Maybe... it's because he's so fragile, Jungkook thought, feeling an overwhelming desire to protect him, not just from the physical stumbles, but from anything that could hurt him. I’ll look after him... even if he doesn’t know it.

And with that silent promise, Jungkook hovered close, ready to shield Jin from the world in any way he could, even if it meant breaking more of heaven’s rules.
