As Jin walked to school, his mind was filled with the usual worries and thoughts that accompanied his social anxiety. The crisp morning air did little to calm his racing heart as he pondered the day ahead, wondering how he would navigate classes, assignments, and the inevitable social interactions that made him feel so uneasy. He focused on the pavement beneath his feet, trying to block out the world around him.

Suddenly, a voice broke through his thoughts, calling out his name. It was rare for anyone to acknowledge him like that—most of his classmates barely noticed his existence. He turned to see Minyung approaching, a friendly smile on his face.

“Hey, Jin!” Minyung called out, his cheerful demeanor contrasting sharply with Jin's anxious thoughts. “How are you?”

Jin felt a wave of panic wash over him. Why is he here? Why does he want to talk to me? The words swirled in his mind, and he felt a bead of sweat forming on his forehead.

Jungkook, hovering just above in the shadows, felt a surge of happiness wash over him, knowing that Jin didn't seem to crave conversation with anyone else. He’s not interested in talking to others... just me, he thought, feeling a strange possessiveness bubble up inside him.

However, Minyung seemed genuinely interested. “I’m really sorry about yesterday,” he continued. “I didn’t mean to get dust in my eyes like that. I hope you managed to figure out the math problem we were working on?”

“A- ah, I— I did…” Jin stammered, his voice barely above a whisper. He nodded, swallowing hard as he tried to maintain eye contact. Minyung’s outgoing nature made Jin feel small and shy in comparison.

“Hey, what are you thinking about?” Minyung asked, tilting his head slightly, curiosity shining in his eyes.

“Yeah, n-nothing much,” Jin replied, forcing a smile to mask his discomfort. He hated how easily words stumbled out of his mouth, like they were playing a game of hide and seek.

“Thought you might have seen an angel or something!” Minyung teased, nudging Jin playfully.

“Ha, very f-funny,” Jin replied, his cheeks warming at the thought. An angel? The idea made his heart race for a different reason, and he quickly glanced away. “But no, just thinking about... well, you know, s-school stuff.”

Jungkook, watching from the ceiling above, clenched his fists tightly. What does he mean, an angel? So what if an angel is there with him? What am I then? His brow furrowed as he felt a surge of jealousy welling up inside him, simmering just beneath the surface.

As Minyung continued to chat about a school project, Jin found himself glancing upwards, half-expecting to see the familiar flash of white feathers and feel the comforting warmth that always accompanied Jungkook. But, of course, there was nothing there—just the stark, mundane ceiling of the school hall.

Jin couldn’t shake the feeling that he wanted to be alone. Minyung’s presence, while friendly, felt overwhelming. Why can’t he just leave me alone? Jin thought, shifting his weight from one foot to the other, desperately wishing for a way to escape the conversation.

Sensing Jin’s discomfort and wanting to keep him away from Minyung, Jungkook decided to intervene. With a flick of his fingers, he subtly directed a few students down the hallway.

“Hey! Minyung!” one of the students called out, waving. “We need you over here for a second!”

Minyung turned, momentarily distracted. “Oh, I’ll be right back!” he said, offering Jin a quick smile before jogging off to join his friends.

As Minyung disappeared into the crowd, Jin finally took a deep breath of relief. The tension that had built up inside him melted away, leaving him grateful for the moment of solitude. He leaned against the wall, closing his eyes for a moment, feeling the weight of the world lift off his shoulders. Thank goodness that’s over, he thought, allowing himself to relax.
