Amren's POV

I bolt upright in bed, eyes darting to the clock. 7:30 AM.
Shit! Class starts in an hour.

Panic sets in as I scramble to my closet, yanking out my baggy mom jeans and a simple grey sweater. No time to think, no time to care. Why do I always do this to myself? I swear I'll never be an early bird. Never was, never will be. I hate mornings. Hate everything about them.

I stumble through my tiny apartment, the city already buzzing outside. I snatch the last banana off the counter, barely noticing how brown it is before I shove it down with a glass of water. No time for breakfast luxury today.

I step onto the balcony, light a cigarette, and take a deep drag. That first one always hits differently—sharp, calming, necessary. I stand there for a moment, watching the city breathe beneath me. First day of school. First day back. Please don't let it suck.

My phone buzzes in my pocket. I pull it out and quickly type a message to Lily, my best friend since high school. She's probably waiting for me to pick her up.

"Hey Lil, I overslept again. Can't pick u up. Sorry! Love ya."

A minute later, her reply lights up my screen.

"Motherfucker! See you at school. Love you."

I grin. Typical Lily. She's always been able to make me laugh, even when I'm running late. I flick the cigarette butt over the balcony railing, pull on my white Nikes, and throw on my favorite leather jacket. I grab my keys and rush out the door.

My motorcycle is parked outside, waiting like an old friend.
This is my motorcycle. This is my freedom.

I slip on my helmet and fire her up, the engine roaring to life beneath me. Just as I start to pull away, I glance at the fuel gauge.
Fuck. Empty.

I swerve toward the nearest gas station and pull up to the pump, mentally cursing myself for not checking earlier. After filling the tank, I head inside to pay. I'm in a hurry, already feeling the minutes slip through my fingers, and as I turn to leave, someone bumps hard into me.

"Hey! Watch where you're going!" I snap, irritation bubbling over.

"I'm sorry!" she says quickly, but I barely acknowledge it as I brush past her. Whatever.

I hop back on my bike, and within minutes, I'm rolling into campus. The familiar buzz of student chatter and the scent of fresh pavement fill the air. As I pull into the lot, I spot Lily from a distance, her wild energy unmistakable even from here.

"OH MY GAWDDDDD!!" she screams as soon as she sees me.

I burst out laughing, swinging my leg off the bike and running over to her. She wraps me in a tight hug, practically crushing me.

"I missed you!!!" she yells into my ear, her excitement infectious.

"I missed you too, Lil," I say, grinning like an idiot. We pull back, still laughing. "Let's smoke a cigarette. We've got a ton to catch up on."

Without missing a beat, she nods, already pulling a pack out of her bag. And just like that, we slip back into our rhythm, the chaos of the morning already fading into the background.
