Amren's POV

"That's when he decided to screw another whore," Lily says bluntly. I stare at her, shocked.

"Wait, are we seriously talking about your dad here?" I ask, needing to make sure I heard her right.

"Yes!" she snaps, her voice rising just a bit.

"Damn... that's seriously messed up," I say, shaking my head as I light another cigarette.

"Yeah, I know," she sighs. "But honestly, I'm glad he left after that. Who needs a man-slut living under the same roof?" She grins, but I can tell there's more behind it.

For some reason, I start laughing—harder than I should. It's not even funny, but something about how bluntly she said it just hits me wrong. "I'm... sorry!" I manage between laughs. "I can't help it!"

Lily looks at me for a moment and then bursts into laughter too. "It's okay!" she says, giggling along with me.

We laugh until our stomachs hurt, the ridiculousness of the moment dissolving some of the heaviness. When the laughter finally dies down, I pull her into a hug. "You know I'm here for you, right?" I tell her, squeezing her tight.

"I know, babe," she says softly, holding on a little longer.

Just then, her attention shifts. "Who's that?" she asks, pulling back and nodding towards someone in the crowd. "Have you seen her around before?"

I glance in the direction she's pointing and immediately recognize her. It's the woman from the gas station this morning—the one who bumped into me. Great.

"No," I say, rolling my eyes. "But she's the one who ran into me earlier. At the gas station."

"Ugh, what a bitch," Lily mutters, shaking her head. "Come on, I need to grab something from my locker."

We get up and head inside, the hallways buzzing as more students flood in.

"Good morning, ladies!" A familiar voice calls out.

"Good morning, Professor Blanchett!" we both reply in unison, turning to see her.

Professor Blanchett is one of the toughest professors on campus. She's strict, no-nonsense, but fair if you manage to stay on her good side. Luckily, I am.

Lily grabs her book from her locker, and the hallways are now packed with students rushing to their first class. The bell rings, echoing through the building. Time to get going.

"What's our first class again?" I ask Lily, already mentally preparing.

"English," she says with a grin.

I can't help but smile back. I love English.
