Mia went home after spending most of the day at Messiah's.

She was in the shower listening to music when her music abruptly stopped, and her phone rang. She rolled her eyes and stepped out of the shower to see who was calling. Cj of course.

"Hello?" She spoke
"Wassup, Whatchu doing?" He asked
"Taking a shower, you?" She replied
"Shit at the spot chilling. What you end up doin last night?" He asked

"Nothing, just took a nap and chilled with my mom. I spoke to Sahara too, so I'm good now." She said. She wasn't technically lying at least half of it was true.

"Why you lyin? Cause when I rode by yo mama house last night that car wasn't there." He said

Mia's heart skipped a beat, but she quickly composed herself, wiping the steam from the mirror as she thought of a reply.

"I parked in the garage," she lied smoothly, wrapping a towel around herself. "It was either that or by the mailbox. You know my mom hates people parking in the driveway."

There was a brief pause on the other end of the line. Mia held her breath, praying CJ would buy it.

"Oh, ight," Cj finally responded, his tone more relaxed than she expected. "I was just checkin'."

Mia exhaled silently, She turned the shower off and went to her room.

"So you just chillin today?" she asked, trying to change the subject.

"Yeah, I was thinkin' we could link up later," CJ replied, his voice unusually soft. "You trynna go to that fair downtown?"

Mia blinked, surprised by his sudden sweetness. Usually, CJ was more demanding, more about what he wanted. But this felt... different.

"Really?" she asked, her tone laced with skepticism.

"Hell yea," Cj said. "I know we been havin some issues, but I'm tryna get us back right. Feel like I ain seen my girlfriend in forever, I been missin you."

Mia's mind flashed back to Messiah—the way he made her feel seen, appreciated. The stark contrast between CJ's toxic grip on her and the warmth she felt in Messiah's presence weighed heavily on her. But here CJ was, sounding like the guy she fell for once, trying to be sweet. She didn't know if it was guilt or if she actually still had feelings for him.

"That sounds good," she finally said, forcing a smile even though he couldn't see it. "I'm down."

"Bet. I'll pick you up in an hour then. And be ready to go when I get there ," Cj said,

Mia rolled her eyes and chuckled at his last comment. "Shut up. Alright " she said, hanging up the phone and setting it down.

Mia stared at herself in the bathroom mirror, a sinking feeling settling into her chest. For some reason, she was starting to feel bad for what she'd been doing with messiah lately, especially what they did this morning. She didn't know what she was doing. A part of her wanted to end things with Cj completely and just fall into whatever she had with Messiah, but another part of her—the part that had history with CJ—was holding on for dear life.

She sighed. As much as CJ was acting nice today, she knew it wouldn't last. It never did. But maybe tonight would be different. Maybe they could find some kind of peace.

She got ready and got dressed.

As she admired her outfit, checking yo see how her butt looked in her jeans, Messiah FaceTimed her.

"Hey Sisi" Mia answered smiling in the camera
"Hey baby, where you finna go" he asked
Mia sighed. "Uhh.. Cj wanna take me to the fair" she said lowly
