A mother would do anything for her child in any given circumstance.
Yaeko was no different.
As they finally found a Japanese doctor to take care of her throughout the remaining pregnancy, she felt a bit more assured.
There was always fear of being recognized after such a public trial but her face had always been covered by a mask when she was surrounded by the media. It was mostly a silly concern of hers that often escalated into panic.
As her pregnancy progressed, however, Yae found less and less energy to even think about it.
Her life priorities changed with every day that passed. At least three different agents were living in the same building as her, ready to act at any given time and even provide company on the hardest days.
Yaeko found a bit of refuge as she entertained herself to learn Finnish. It was certainly an attempt since the language was so difficult.
Every time she was stuck on the pronunciation of a certain word she would be reminded of all of Yuzu's stories about his English troubles.
He was an ever-present thought in her mind, unavoidable but still welcome. It was clear that she would never forget the moments they spent together, even in the smallest things.
Finnish was a very tricky language, the sonorities were different and she hadn't been exposed to it enough to make it any easier. If anything, maybe if she ever left the house things would have become easier.
The good thing was that she had a lot of time to practice as the little one inside of her grew big and strong.
As boring as most of her days were, she was certainly entertained by this new challenge as well as an online college program that she found for teaching. It was unsure whether it would allow her to be a teacher in the future, but she enjoyed the learning process.
Agent Miura still saw right through her. He knew well that the company of the agents wasn't anywhere near what she needed, especially as it became very obvious that this would be a long-lasting process that she would have to endure. He didn't tell her then, but he was trying to help her go through this as best as he could. It was difficult when he thought of all the inconveniences that came with assuring her safety but it didn't mean that there wasn't a way.
Convincing the rest of the agency was the hard part. Everyone was on edge with the case and there was certainly a lot of tension after it became obvious that there had been some kind of tampering with the trial. It certainly seemed like no one trusted the team and it started being painfully clear that some of them were very concerned about possible leaks.
Still, as he fought hard to make this a bit easier on her, the Agent finally got the all-clear for what he wanted and he couldn't wait to tell her.
"Yaeko." he called for her as he entered the safe house as it was usual.
"Agent Miura."
They had new names outside of the house but it felt weird to use them when they were in a safe space. As many times as he told her to call him by his name only, Yae just dismissed him.
"Are you feeling alright?"
"Yeah, been studying all morning. If it wasn't for this baby I would probably be on my third or fourth cup of coffee."
"I'm sure it will all be worth it once he's in your arms."
"I think so too."
She smiled genuinely at the man. Yaeko couldn't hide how thankful she was for his presence when he was the only one by her side through all of this mess.
"I have some good news for you."
His excitement must have been evident but Yae brightened up almost right away.
"Did you? Did you find a way for me to talk to Yuzu?"
Unfortunately, Agent Miura knew that asking for that would be far harder than anything he could ever achieve. If what he did was already a conquest, reaching out to Yuzuru just seemed impossible given all the risks it could bring.
His expression was more than enough for her to realize that.
"Sorry for leading you on... yeah not Yuzuru, that's too risky."
"I figured as much."
"But... I managed to convince them to give you a phone and allow you contact with someone else other than us... I suggested Hana as an option, I figured that a female companion could help in this latter stage of your pregnancy and on top of that, she's also a doctor who can probably reassure you if anything arises."
Sure, none of the situation was perfect but Yae could see very clearly just how much the man was trying to help.
On the other hand, having Hana to talk to was far better than not having anyone and she also missed her friend miserably.Yaeko stood and unexpectedly hugged the agent tight. Once again, this man was treating her better than her father ever did.
"Thank you so much, agent. You have no idea how much this means to me."
"I know it's tempting but refrain from trying to get to Yuzuru through this, ok? I know that Hana and him are close friends but we can't risk anything in this stage."
"Yeah, I'm aware."
"Slowly, we will beat this okay?"
"I trust you and your team, whatever you say, I will follow."
"Alright."
Just like that, Miura had just provided her with the extra support she needed to handle the following months. She would be ready to welcome her son as best as he deserved.
