As the wedding day approached, Lugard's expression grew darker, and danger seemed to emanate from him.
In the dimly lit room of his estate, Lugard sat on his bed, his eyes gleaming in the darkness. The air was thick with tension, and the shadows seemed to writhe on the walls.
There was a knock on the door.
Without looking, Lugard said, "You may come in," in a voice that sent shivers down the spines of the butler and assistant.
They entered the room, their footsteps echoing off the walls.
Lugard's gaze flicked towards them, his eyes narrowing. "What brings you here?" he asked, his tone dripping with menace.
Although they couldn't see his expression, they could sense his cold demeanor and knew he was in a bad mood, making them both alert and scared.
The butler and assistant exchanged nervous glances. "Young master, the master is concerned about the upcoming marriage," the butler ventured, bowing his head.
Lugard's face contorted, his fists clenching. The air seemed to vibrate with his anger.
"The master has been trying to reach you for days, but you have not responded," the assistant added, his voice trembling. "He asked me to inquire if you will be attending the ceremony." He said he doesn't have time to come and deal with you," if not he will come and teach you a lesson directly. The assistant said, his voice trembling
Lugard's silence was oppressive, heavy with unspoken threats.
"I won't show up, and I won't marry Mera," he finally said, his voice cold and detached.
The butler and assistant exchanged relieved glances, but their respite was short-lived.
"I will deliver your message about not attending, but you can call your father and discuss the marriage with him," the assistant replied respectfully.
"Get out," Lugard ordered, his face black with anger.
Feeling the icy atmosphere, both the assistant and the butler were about to leave the room. However, the assistant suddenly remembered something and turned back.
As they beat a hasty retreat, the assistant turned back, his voice barely above a whisper. "Young master, I have something to inform you."
Lugard's gaze flicked towards him, his eyes glinting in the darkness. Go on.
"The master mentioned earlier that the bride has been replaced," the assistant said, his words spilling out in a rush.
Lugard's expression didn't change, but his eyes seemed to bore into the assistant's soul.
"Mrs. Mera is no longer marrying you. Mrs. Claire Davis, Mera's mother, and Miss Mera have both refused to marry you, saying you are useless garbage," the assistant said, the last words escaping in a panic.
Lugard's face darkened, his jaw clenched.
"Continue," he said, his voice dripping with ice.
"The new bride is Miss Lisa Davis, the elder daughter of Mr. John Davis," the assistant said, bracing himself for Lugard's reaction.
But instead of anger, Lugard's face seemed to relax, a sly smile spreading across his lips.
"Better," he murmured, his eyes glinting with amusement.
The assistant and butler exchanged shocked glances, unsure of what to make of Lugard's reaction.
The assistant and the butler were left wide-eyed and full of surprise at Lugard's unexpected reaction.
