Aro’s POV
The newborn stared in surprise as we approached, clearly not expecting us. “Very good Santiago,” I said, resting my hand on his shoulder. “You accomplished much by keeping this newborn subdued for so long.”
He bowed low. “Thank you my Lord, but it was but a short hour or two.”
“How did you keep her so still?”
“She was very compliant when it came to the child’s safety.” He held the wolfling up. “This is the child, a scentless werewolf.”
“How disgusting. We should kill it immediately.”
“No!” The woman shouted. “Please, no! She never did any wrong! Let her go!”
I walked over to her, she was quite attractive. It was too bad I have a wife, plus she is useless to me and will probably soon die. “Do you have any idea to whom you speak so boldly too?”
She shook her head.
“That is Caius of the Volturi.” Unlike expected, she did not bow and stammer apologies. “Have you not heard of the Volturi?”
She shook her head. “No. Never.”
“So, your creators did not inform you… What is your name?”
“Isabella.” I offered Isabella my hand, but she just sat there and stared. “Will you please leave the child be?”
“Perhaps. It might depend on cooperation…” She sighed and took my hand, and I nearly let go of her in surprise.
“Aro?” Marcus inquired.
No memories? Or is she, somehow, blocking my power?
“Jane, if you would be a dear.”
She smiled cruelly, “This may just hurt a little.” And yet, as Isabella did not move, Jane’s smile faded and was soon replaced by a frustrated frown. “My Lord?” Jane touched me.
Memories flashed past my eyes, her life quickly passing to the present point. Her thoughts invaded my mind.
Pretty girl, I wonder how pretty you would look when you’re in pain…
Scream dear, scream! I know it must hurt, although you hold a good façade.
Perhaps I shall increase the power?
This makes no sense! None can withhold such pain! She should be withering in agony!
Is she, immune?
I turned to the woman. “If you wish the child to remain unharmed, you shall come with us.”
Carlisle’s POV
God I hoped they were okay. Alice and Edward, along with the three werewolves had run off in search of Bella. I stayed behind. I do not know why, but something told me it would be better if I stayed behind. And so, since I had nothing else to do, I went home and turned on the lights to my lab. It had taken quite a bit to cut the child, the needle had snapped in two when I applied it to her arm. In the end, I cut her gently with my nail, catching the blood in a vial. Now I laid my vials, one with blood and the other with her dark ebony hair, on the counter of my lab table and took out the equipment. I set the blood under the lens and began scrutinizing it.
I had no idea of the discoveries I would soon make.
Leah’s POV
Charlie was calm. Well, for a man who was surrounded by supernatural creatures he was calm; but not as clam as Human-Bella always was.
