Nixie
I wake up to warmth. I smile before I even open my eyes.
"Are you purring?" a husky voice asks in my ear.
"Dillon?" I squeak.
He chuckles and it sends ribbons of heat directly to my core. "I'm glad you know who I am. I don't think you want to scream and have your dad appear."
I laugh at him, "My dad told me you guys soundproof all the bedrooms for privacy. But why are you here?"
"You wouldn't let me go last night. And wolves don't like to be separated from their mates. Are you mad?"
I shake my head. "No. I'm not."
"Good," he rumbles, "because I like waking up with you in my arms. But," he adds, "you need to explain why."
"Why?"
"Why you cried when I tried to put you in bed alone."
My teeth worry at my cheek as my mind worries about the answer. "Will you get mad at me?"
"For wanting to sleep with your mate? Not likely."
"I haven't slept alone until I came here."
"WHAT!" he roars, and I fight the urge to cower. "Sorry, Sprite." He soothes instantly, his lips gentle on my forehead. "Please explain it to me, so my wolf will calm down."
"I thought you guys were ok with previous relationships?" The book I read said that wolves weren't often celibate but became instantly monogamous when they found their mate. "But that's not what I meant," I continue before he tries to say anything, and I lose my nerve. It's weird to talk about Sebastian as a real person, since he's been my pet for my whole life. "Sebastian slept with me every night...as a cat!" I add at the end when I see his eyes narrow. "But then he was gone, and I was alone."
"Why are you scared of being alone?"
My body feels heavy, the sorrow pressing against me. But I refuse to allow it and push it back down. "It's a story I'm not ready to tell. I might never be ready to tell."
He kisses my forehead again. "It doesn't matter. You aren't alone anymore, Sprite. The mate bond will strengthen and once the mating and marking is complete, you will feel me with you always."
I still worried about my reaction to Sebastian and the fact I'm sure they were both my mates. I still hadn't managed to do any research on nymphs. But I'd make that my next priority. "Now you just have to get out of here and back to your bed without anyone seeing you."
He shakes his head a me with a chuckle. "I'm the next Alpha. I could walk out of here bare ass naked, and no one would question me."
"Dillon! Don't you dare!"
His chuckles get louder. "Relax, Nix, I'm not going to embarrass you that much, not yet."
"Is that a threat, Mr. Alpha?"
In a heartbeat, he flips over, and I find myself under him, his thighs bracketing mine, his hands holding mine above my head. It's a dangerous position but I'm not scared. "Don't tempt me, Sprite."
I lean up just enough to peck a kiss on his lips. "I would never."
He follows my lips back and kisses me, but it's no casual kiss like mine rather a full-on possession of my mouth. We are both panting when he finally pulls away. "You tempt me with every breath you take, Nix." Then he jumps out of the bed, pulls on his pants, grabs the rest of his clothes and leaves. "Breakfast, downstairs, fifteen minutes," he orders just as the door closes.
