Nixie
"Where were you?" Gale asks, his nose twitching.
I somehow brought myself back to Sebastian, who was still in the conference room, instead of the safety of my bedroom. "In the park."
"Nixie," Sebastian breaks in. I wince at the frustration in his tone. "What were you doing in the park?"
"Ah, sitting on a bench."
"Why?" Dillon asks.
I close one eye. "Because sitting on the ground is uncomfortable."
"And?" Jefferson questions.
"My pants are dry clean only. I didn't want to get them dirty. The ground was wet."
"Why did you go to the park?" my dad asks.
I groan, knowing the next question would be from the Alpha and I couldn't not answer him. "Why do you get to gang up on me? Weston told me to just tell people to mind their own business."
"You are our business, princess."
I grimace. "I knew it was stupid advice. I'm going to punch him in the gut the next time I see him."
Dillon laughs, "I'd pay to see that."
"How much?" I ask. "Should I go get him?"
"Speaking of going, why did you go to the park?" my dad asks again.
I swear, silently, in my head. But judging by the looks on the faces of my mates and dad, they all knew what I was doing. "To see someone."
"Nixie," Alpha tones.
I roll my eyes but answer. "Randall agreed to meet me. I knew we needed answers."
"Nixie!" Dillon, Sebastian, and my dad all roar.
I rub my ears. "God guys, chill. Obviously fine."
"Nixie," Sebastian growls low.
I might have only known Sebastian as a man for a few weeks, but I have known Sebastian the cat for my whole life, and that was his had enough growl. "It was necessary and you two won't have let me."
"Maybe not, but you must cease jumping without caring about where you'll land. You might have managed so far but princess, trust me, there are people out there who will make Becca seem like an angry toddler."
"Sorry," I breath in a small voice. "I just wanted to help."
"We know, Nix, but help with help."
"I told Sybil what I was doing."
Jefferson looks around. "Where is Sybil?"
I wince. "I might have told her to stay away from you guys til I came back."
Gale breaks the mood by laughing. "You certainty have your hands full with this little one."
I smile at him and that's when I finally notice my magical mobsters are missing. "Where are Rafferty and Lucan? I bet they'd have some colorful words to say about me."
"Pressing business matters," Alpha says.
"They wanted to read the book." I smirk.
"What is in it?"
"At a guess, it's a cross between a history book and a grimoire," I say. I might not have been able to translate it, but I had looked at it. The pictures were beautifully drawn, the knotwork so intricate you felt if you touched it, it would feel dimensional.
"You said you couldn't translate it?"
"I couldn't," I say, shrugging "That doesn't mean I never looked at it."
