Nixie
After collecting the spell, I take Cora to Shay and ask her to take Cora to the storehouse and find her some clothes while I track down Luna to find out where I can put her.
The Luna is in the Alpha's office. I sigh and knock.
"Come."
Great, I mutter to myself, when I see my father in attendance as well. "Hi, I just have a quick question for Luna." I force myself to smile.
"Care to explain why you let Colleen out of holding?" Alpha cocks his eyebrow at me.
"Her name is Cora, now."
"She changed her name and that makes it ok?" my father asks.
"Not exactly what happened," I say with a tight smile.
"What did happen?" Alpha asks, his Alpha tone lacing the words. I wonder if I need to tell him it doesn't work on me. Regardless, I need to tell him to get his approval for Cora to stay in the packhouse.
"Colleen completed the spell to give Cara's spark her body. Only, you know that belief that twins are one soul split in two? Her soul pieces merged into their whole." I shrug. "It helps us as Cora is willing to help. We already discovered who helped with my first kidnapping." Not wanting to go into the magic too much, especially how I obtained the spell, I change the subject. "But have we made any headway on the hunters and Carlos's pack?" Then I bite my lips but not before a swear word pushes out.
"Care to share?" Alpha asks.
"The hunter who cuffed me introduced himself as Randy. Sebastian remembered a human who came around just before my seventh birthday and seemed creepily interested in me. He disappeared but his name was Randall James. I don't think it's a coincidence. Do you?"
"Randall James?" Alpha asks. The swear words he lets fly when he hears the name are far worse than mine.
I jerk around to my father. "I take it you know him?"
"Randall James is one of the creators of the hunters."
"And Becca let him leave? Alive?" I gasp.
"WHAT?"
I sit down hard and mind link Sebastian and Dillon for backup.
"Dillon is busy with our new friend, but I will join you once I get Jefferson."
"Sebastian and Jefferson are on the way," I tell the trio currently eyeing me with looks ranging from anger to fear.
"Nixie?" my father starts. "What is going on?"
I piff at him. "What isn't going on?"
"No." His eyes bore into me. "Why are hunters working with Becca?"
I waggle my lips. "I don't think they are. The hunters who came to the house made Becca port out alone." Becca hated using magic unless it gained her something. Portals to escape only gained her her life. And leaving me meant she had to collect me, again. Not in her best interests. So, she had to fear losing her life more than losing me. "And that's not why Randall James is important."
"Randall James was one of Becca's former lovers," Jefferson says as he enters the room, immediately followed by Sebastian. "And one of the few who left, alive." He shakes his head, his eyes staring out the window. "None of her other human lovers who found out the truth lived."
"She did not think him a hunter," Sebastian adds. "She is more afraid of hunters than you."
It makes sense, she lived completely in the human realm with no protection. Of course, it also kept her away from the eyes of the supernaturals who might dispute her actions.
