Dark Wood Pack is a ragtag pack of wolves who allow any rogues membership. While I have no personal vendetta against rogues, I know most male rogues are criminals at best. We do allow rogue into our pack, but usually only pups. Adults must prove themselves and so far, only ten females have past the tests. They are not overly painful, instead a test of loyalty and willingness to follow our rules even in the face of resistance.
"We need to move fast," Sebastian links me. "The judge is coming for her."
I hiss through my teeth. The judge is a powerful supernatural. No one knows exactly what, but he never seems to have a problem killing any of his bounties. "Meet us in the garage. We'll leave now."
He joins me but warns, "Nix thinks the wolf is working with the hunters."
I ponder her idea. Wolves don't work with hunters. But Carlos is closer to a rogue than a true Alpha. "I'll alert the warriors. We will take precautions."
Sebastian crosses his arms and leans back in his seat, a frown wrinkling his face. "What do we know about the hunters?"
"I didn't bother ID-ing them," I confess. "But I can have it looked into."
He nods, "Do. Something smells fishy. There is no way a hunter got the jump on Becca. She's been at the same house for twenty years and then yesterday they suddenly find it? I don't believe it."
I jerk, Sebastian is not given to explanations. I link Kyle who I left back at the pack, looking into who betrayed us. "Check into the dead hunters' IDs. They might be working with Alpha Carlos."
Kyle grunts, "Seems right. That pack is broke. What better way to save yourself then selling out your competition."
"I want a full picture," I tell him.
"I'll get Shay to help me," he says. "She needs something to do to get her mind off her ass whooping."
"Any news on him?"
"No," Kyle growls. "All the security teams are present and accounted for."
"Once we have Nix back, she'll be able to help," I tell him. "She sees us differently and, she remembers the name of every wolf she meets."
I'm pulled from my mind link with Kyle by a growl from Sebastian. "Link Oliver."
My eyes widen at the order. "Why?"
"I need to ask Jefferson something. Something that could change everything."
"What," I demand.
He glares at me, and I smirk back. This is the first time I've ever had the upper hand over Sebastian, and I intend to enjoy every moment. "My mind, my link. Tell me and I'll ask Oliver."
"You won't like it," he warns.
"Sebastian," I growl.
He chuckles, "Becca has had lovers, most were ends to a means. But one, he came around just before Nix turned seven. He was different. Then, Nix turned seven and he was gone."
"So?"
"He was human," Sebastian says. "But he knew who or rather more importantly what Becca was."
