After we get back, my dad asked me to meet him in his office. "What's up?"
"I need to talk to you about a few things. First, you will be welcomed into the pack on the next full moon."
"Not a Luna ceremony?"
He smiles but shakes his head. "You will be acknowledged as Dillon's fated mate but you will not be a true Luna until Dillon is crowned the next Alpha when he turns 28."
"When is that?" I never did ask him about his age.
My dad chuckles, "Forget to discuss a few things?"
I shrug. "It doesn't truly matter. My life span is really long."
He nods, "Wolves live about 1000 years or so. So, even though Dillon will be crowned the next Alpha in four years, he won't take the true title for a century or more."
Sounds nice, I might get enough time to understand. "The Alpha's ok with it? The not having a wolf now?"
"There are Lunas without wolves. A rare few are even humans. But you are still half-wolf, Nix. To the pack, you will just be a non-shifting wolf. We do have those."
"But I can shift," I tell him.
"You can?"
I nod. "Into just about any animal you can name."
He beams at me. "What color?"
I laugh and confess. "White." I tug on one of my locks. "Everyone I try is always white."
"How are you, really?" He asks in a rush.
"I'm good, dad. For the first time in a long time, I feel like I fit. Dillon and Sebastian love me. I feel whole and I feel at home."
He smiles at me. "Good to hear."
"You didn't have to make up reason to ask me how I am, dad."
He grimaces. "I know this isn't easy for you."
I chuckle. "It's different and challenging, but compared to dealing with Becca? It's not that hard. And I'm happy. So, that more than makes up for it. By the way, did you get Lydia to move in with you?"
He nods and his eyes sparkle. "Yes. I did. We are marked now."
"Good," I tell him. "Now I just have to get Kyle and Shay settled."
He snorts. "Good luck with that."
This morning, both my mates left me with a kiss. Saying they had a meeting. Not believing them, I was too tired to care, and lying in a warm bed smelling of them, I fell back asleep.
When I woke, I found an insulated cup of coffee, a chocolate muffin, and a curly cursive note reading We'll be in Dillon's office on the bedside table.
With a smile, I dress and step out onto our balcony to enjoy the first taste of outside in too many weeks. I never imagined I would miss it so desperately. Now, thanks to Sebastian, I understand, my sprite part not only craves nature, water especially, it requires it to survive.
I'm lost in thoughts about a few hours at the lake when I hear a loud boom, and the protective barrier glows red for a minute.
"Get downstairs into the basement!" Dillon yells into my head.
I glance around and see Cara and Colleen in the trees, just beyond the border. "Cara and Colleen are out there, just east of the balcony, near the tree line." I knew when they caught sight of me, and I linked Sebastian and Dillon. "They can see me. If you get to them fast, I can keep them busy."
